It looks like LBA has missed the boat for Long-haul charters now that DSA will get flights in only it’s second season; Thomson obviously aware of demand from Yorkshire-based travellers who don’t want to travel to MAN. No doubt if the LBA management had spent some money on a r/w extension then things could be different?

Some great photos there. Regards terminals at JFK, I believe that AA are having a new one built which should open this year? The New International terminal is certainly a massive improvement on the old one.

It’s interesting that MAN-ABZ takes 1h15m on a Dash-8, I’ve flown LHR-ABZ many times and that takes on average only 1h10m on a 320/757…makes those Dash-8 look slow. I’m surpised that BACX are competitive on this route as BMIR operate RJ145s on all their flights.
The r/w approach lights appear to have been replaced in the last 3 years; I remember back in Feb 2002, the lights were on separate stancheons ie. not linked together.
Saudi Arabian also operate B747-100s with R-R engines..I believe that these are unique?
Thomsonfly are due to get 2 x 737s from Britannia Nordic; one for MME and one for DSA. The DSA one appears to be G-CDZN(ex-SE-DZN).
On another note the HUY-PMI w-rotation is now slated to use a 762..(I guess LBA a/c as last year) rather than the 738 to be based at DSA.
The Scotsman article refers to blended winglets on the 737-800s; these aren’t fitted to the first a/c though..?

18th August 1981…Laker A300 LGW-TFS. I was 8 at the time and had a vision of an “Airbus” as being like a bus with wings…?

Another passenger whose not keen on the Continental 757s posted this on airliners.net:
1) There is no PTV’s on the 757’s.
2) The bins on the 757’s are smaller and will mean more passengers loosing there baggage in the holds. Don’t be last on board the 757, did it cross country last week on a UA 757!
3) On wide bodies they have the bathrooms in the centre, the 757’s are in the rear. Those drinks/meal carts will take a long time to go through. Crews are serving 6 people per row on the 757. 767 3 or 4, and the 777, 4 or 5. It takes a lot longer on a 757.
4) Being an aisle man, I would have 1 in 3 chance to get an aisle seat. the 767 is 4 in 7, and the 777 4 in 9, in economy class.
5) The 757 is not roomy, it’s a longer 737 with bigger engines and wings.
Interesting that CO have switched one flight over to a B767; maybe they accept that MAN passengers used to 767/777s will not be impressed with 757s..?
