Thought I was seeing double:very_drunk:
Good news that there is no damage.
But on the renting of the engine, from what I have read it has always been classified as a ‘loaner’. I would be a kick in the teeth for the Canadians if it’s true. Fingers crossed it’s just a rumour.
Howard500 has posted in the tour thread than thankfully no damage has been suffered.
Just flicked through my Uncles log book, there’s an entry in jan 1945 ops on Zeitz he lost port outer 200 miles from target, continued on bomb run well below main force and returned…………he was awarded an immediate DFC.
Just brings it home how brave the chaps were.Jules
Well deserved, I doubt if I could have done what they did.
I must be doing something wrong then. I have sent some money to their main email address. so it should get
there one way or another.
There was a problem with the link at first, it seems it’s now fixed.
I was at the workshop on Saturday, frame 10 looks a bit complex!
Love the quote in the Aopa article:stupid:
“An original Mark IX Spitfire that actually flew in the real Battle of Britain is the jewel of the fleet”.
TT, sorry it says your location is Norwich, a bit of a hike from Oxford! It’s something else hearing them let alone seeming them, get there. I didn’t think I would see them flying together but I did the tour at Coningsby and I saw the first flight of them together whilst on the tour so I was on the airfield at the time, I wish I had bought a lottery ticket that day! I have never been so lucky.
A case of scratch my back and I will scratch yours. Makes sound business sense if you ask me.
I thought it was very good of the NX611 chaps as well. Thank you!
TT, can’t you get to Coningsby to see them?
Oooh, that doesn’t look good – still, as MattCooke says, everyone’s safe (‘plane included) on the ground. East Kirkby’s airworthy Merlins might be getting uncrated earlier than they thought, depending on BBMF’s spares stock? (that’s not a particularly serious suggestion, BTW).
Many a true word said in jest.

From the CWHM facebook page.
“During a local flight from Durham Tees Valley Airport this morning, our Lancaster performed a precautionary engine shutdown . The aircraft landed safely without incident. It is now hangared and is undergoing maintenance. Regrettably we will not attend our weekend events and will advise on others.”
I would have thought the Canadian Lanc would have Packards and the BBMF Lanc Rolls Royce?
I feel for the poor sods that was on the receiving end during the war.
First time have read the G-ASIX story, Vickers built one strong plane.
