I helped convert G-AXRT into a tail dragger in the early ’80s, nice to see she is still active. Fond memories of doing aerobatics in her.
Very good and very moving. But was me or did the ‘Skipper’ look about 70?
I have it in front of me, it says “Spectacular image of a 312th Bomb Group A-20G at work, New Guinea, 1944.” A strange caption given it’s a widely known photo. Most people familiar with the photo knows it’s the moment that a crew died.
All is well with Kermit, a nice tour of FoF as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BquXX4WGmTU&feature=youtu.be
Thanks for posting this Heard not seen, very interesting.
Again, as I say it’s needs must with the Vampire. It’s a pity because it’s such a good Vampire project. I just hope it sells so Mike can get his workshop/hangers built.
Tony, it’s possible it could fly again, should the £££s turn up, it’s that good.
Tony, my wife wouldn’t let me have either sadly.
Geoff, I haven’t seen Mike (the owner) for a long while, I suspect he is selling so he can build his workshop/hangers at Fishburn and get on with building the Whirlwind replica. Don’t quote me though. Selling the Vampire would be the last thing he wanted. But I suppose need must. And yes, it’s it’s potentially airworthy project, ground running is more realistic though.
I have read elsewhere that Black 8 was Franz Elles aircraft and that Schroer only flew it a couple of time.
Thank you all for your replies and for taking the time and trouble. Very interesting reading to say the least. I will show this thread to the family, but I think the way forward is to apply for his records.
The plot thickens.
“He flew Lysanders on seo missions.”
Thanks BobKat, a big help.
Thanks Moggy, pure guess on my part regarding the medals. After a Google the one on the right looks like a war medal 1939–1945 with a oak leaf as it was suggested he was mentioned in dispatches.
A photograph of the gentleman in question. Anyone recognise any of the medals?
That’s a 210 isn’t it?
