RE: New Model.
Dear Andrew,
In fact building a modern commercial plane is not so difficult.
If you can get hold of a (badger) sprayset or so, the result can be very good. Care has to be taken about the windows and the area around them
I used to spray the body before assembly, then assemble the windows which are usually a long strip, than assemble the body in full and mask the windows with a small strip of tape, then grind and fill the body joints and re-spray the body again.
It takes some time but the results in 1:144 are fine.
The wings can be build into one assemby and painted as a single unit.
If you are looking for fancy paint scemes, complete decal sets are made by Superscale, to be obtained from companies like Hannants (www. hannants.co.uk)
Good luck and post a picture!
Regards,
Aart
RE: Swaping Aircraft?
Especially aircraft on short-term lease are swapped frequently,
for this reason there are so many “white tube” aircraft with just some titles and tail painted in a corporate image.
Last summer I spotted and even flew a very funny Fokker F70 in full BMI paint, however with the BM logo on the tail removed and the BMI titles painted over with KLM Cityhopper.
The only logo’s still in place were the Rolls Royce and Fokker logo’s on the engine and tail airbrake.
RE: Easyjet
Easyjet employs mostly young, very young staff, this will definitely enhance the looks.
Next, they have to be nice to the passengers…they are sales people!
They must sell you coffee, sandwiches, etc.
Would you buy from a murking-nurking son/daughter of a :'( ?
RE: A310
I have flown A310’s from KLM, Lufthansa and Emirates.
the A310 is as (un)comfortable as an A300, it is only a matter of length and I think you only see the difference at row 35 or beyond…
The comfort of a plane is more due to cabin lay-out, etc which is entirely due to the airline.
The A300/310 have a less roomy feeling compared to the newer A330/340 and I believe this is due to the fact that Airbus raised the windows a little bit which give a better sense of light and space.
RE: What’s your favourite Tri-jet?
I rate the Tristar as the ultimate 3-holer.
Especially the colourful machines used by AirLanka and Gulfair and of course Delta.
It was a great machine, especially on night fligthts, it allowed you a reasonable sleep.
The Tristar was not very prone of turbulence and cabin is wide and silent.
RE: KLM
As a dutch frequent flyer, I use KLM a lot, mainly on their Middle East flights, flying J-class.
Their problem is consistency, or better, a lack of consistency.
During one flight they are brillian, the net one urghh, it is really a gamble.
Seats an legroom are OK, Amsterdam Schiphol airport is very OK,
boarding, where on earth is chaotic and often rude.
This spoiled little boy compares the european airlines with airlines like Gulf Air, Emirates who really know how to organise.
Boarding a Qatar Airways flight (J or F) is not by bus, but by a
BMW 740IL with roof mounted flashlight!!!
RE: Advise
If your react fast you can travel AMS-JFK for EURO 279,00 or so
This flight is always operated by a 747.
good lock,
Aart
RE: Airport pic of the day-26/02/02
I think it is the 340 operated by the ‘state of Qatar’
Very much Middle-East an very VVIP!
RE: Share your airline (unpleasant) experiences
The worst airline?
No one ever heard about Syrian Airlines?
How many examples do you want?
This airline does not provide C/J (business class).
Alas, you squeeze yourself into economy, what used to be very interesting in the good old days the were using a TU134 from DOH-DAM.
Or even better, a B727, msn #00001 or #00002.
However, when checking in with lets say 35Kg of dirty laundry they always tried to charge you for 15Kg overweight, even when your ticket mentions C/J as fare bases and ‘allow 30Kgs’
Sir, this is economy and we allow only 20Kg. No, not true, look at the ticket….. Yes, that is printed, but wrong since we only have……..
Usually, when the queue was about 30 people, they accepted you.
While on board, the started to throw small boxes with a carrot, a cucumber and a brick-pack orange juice at you.
My travelagent modified my CLIP (Client profile) while adding:
Flights with a RB-prefix must be considered as non-existing.
Today they are replacing their museum pieces for A320’s, however I still no not trust them!
RE: Pic Of The Day-Perfect For The King!
The plane is painted in colours of Royal Jordanian, however not operated by them.
RJ operates only the A320 and A310, not the A340.
As far as I remember, the plane was bought during the Dubai Airshow 2001.
I believe it was previously operated by or for the Sultan of Brunei.
At least King Abdallah can cath up with the other local royalty like the Saudi royal family!
RE: Moustaches, yes or no?
Male cabin crew with a moustache: fine to me.
However: for my sake Female flight attendants with a moustache can
be fired.
RE: London City Airport
I like LCY a lot.
Living in the Netherlands, we are offered 5-6 flights daily by KLM UK. These flights are currently flown with a Fokker 50, a couple of years ago by BAE 146.
LCY is also called a ‘stolport’, and landing is some kind of a controlled crashlanding, it is quit a steep, low speed dive.
The airport itself is comfortable, you can on the street within 15 minutes after depaning. You walk away from the plane (no bus), go inside, straight left and there you go.
It is no comparison to Heatrow or Gatwick.
From the airport you have good bus connection to the London underground system.
The airport has a cafetaria on the first floor, from which you can make some pictures, however this is all from behind the window.
There is always a nice collections of ATR’s (Eurowings), F50’s (KLM UK and VLM, Dash 8 (LH) and Crossair Saabs and Bae jets.
London City airport has a good website, I do not know thir url, but it is linked through the KLMUK website.
RE: Avro Shutdown!
The shutdown of AVRO triggers the same feelings with me when Fokker went out of business.
Here in West-Europe we no longer can compete with Bombardier and Embrear who mass-produce their planes.
As passengers, we should not be to happy with the new Regional flying barrels, it is true that they do provide economics to their operators, offer shorter slots compared to equally sized ATR’s and Fokker 50’s. However, they do not provide the same level of comfort to the passengers like the 6-abreast AVRO RJ or 5-abreast Fokkers.
Fortunately, we will see many RJ’s around in the coming years.
RE: The 757
I agree with all of you…the 757 is a good plane, it looks right.
Considering the fact that a 737-900 seats almost as many pax as a 757-200, I definitely opt for the 757, booth in passenger comfort as well as in looks.
Hey Phantom: I thought I was born to late te fly on the 707.
I think early ’99 I got the chance flying one on a MEA flight from Beirut to Amman.
We were bussed to the plane and most people around me looked yughhh, while I murmelled silently yes…yes!!
For the record, I stole the safety instruction sheeth.
It was a short (evening) flight, extremely un-eventfull an could have been on any type of airliner.
