This is great news. Im happy about this as i am lookin at going either to Sydney or the Gold Coast later this year, so having cheaper fares would be a bonus.

I have to fly to Athens. I must choose between Olympic or Aegean. As a paranoid flier, I donยดt know what to do. Olympic flies old B734-400 from 1991-1998, and Aegean (no information of what are they like?), RJ70 or B737-400. Are they safe?. I know itยดs a silly question, but have you flown in any of these?.

its not the age of the aircraft thats the problem. I recently flew on a 22 year old JAT B733 from DXB to BEG (7 hour and 35 minute flight for those intrested in the rough distance, an i’ll mention the refuel stop in BEY) and had a pleasant flight without any problems.

Olympic is technically bankrupt – the fact that its aircraft are still flying is down to the Greek government providing cash – which was deemed illegal by the courts. The airline has been unable to pay many of its airport charges for a fair while. The airline could, in theory stop flying at any momnet. Based on that argument, I personally would fly Aegean.

i would of thought they would of shut down months ago, but they’ve had a name change from Olympic Airways to Olympic Airlines. What is their current situation btw?

Its not AI, its IC. IC plans to lease A330s for these flights. I had been lobbying for this route for 2 years and the idiots start it when i am shifting out of Australia. ๐Ÿ˜ก

IC will have stiff competition though, TK, AI/QF, SQ, CX, Malaysian offer very good connections to Australia, specially Melbourne. SQ being the best of the lot, in terms of connectivity, by offering two daily flights to Melbourne.

Few things that might give IC the edge is if they have mid-day or mid-afternoon flights out of India, sparing passengers the congestion vows being faced at hubs like Delhi and Mumbai these days.

But wouldnt it be the same since AI and IC will merge withing the next few months?

If scheduled correctly, i think this may even put competition to EK as well, if the IC MEL flights are connected onto Euro bound destinations with AI.

Sounds quite a big entry into MEL by AI. Any news on frequencies and ac to be used on the routes?

    thanks for the help. ๐Ÿ™‚

A lot of airlines allow 20kg for economy passengers.

That is what JAT initially told me in Belgrade when i rang to-confirm my flight back to MEL. After i told them i was continuing to MEL with EK406 they said 28kgs.

Also any bag over 20kgs should be tagged with a heavy sticker.

is this also due to the health and safety? The only sticker on my bag from JAT was the white sticker that says DXB MEL etc. They dont even supply baggage tags! ๐Ÿ™

It sat there for a week or two before we got it onto a flight without anybody asking about the wait.

    wow ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Thats odd.

Sooo, possibly 20 years in jail for snogging your girlfriend, versus a slap on the wrist for burning 4 kittens alive… http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/11/14/D8LD29BG0.html

America – it’s almost as good as the UK for bonkers law enforcement.

that article was disgusting. And it is a shame that the man was given such an outrageously small jail sentence. ๐Ÿ˜ก

There’s a time and place for that sort of thing and it’s not in the public domain!!

    i agree.
