I used to work on the 2 MAOF B720B’s EX Monarch B720B G-BCBA G-BCBB BCBB is now preserved Israel 4X-JYG and Air Malta 720B’s at Luton in the 80’s, when they were empty and we flew out to rescue some stranded passengers she was a Rocket Ship 🙂 Roared off Luton’s runway like a giant home sick angel..

A few years later I was looking through a Airliner Graveyard Book and found a photo of both MAOF (BCBA) and Air Malta Vertical stabilizer’s lying on the ground next to the remains of the fuse & wings in the USA 🙁

Shame the Excellent Malta Aviation Museum couldn’t save the Cockpit ?

there is a 720B Cockpit at Pima which is Air Malta 9H-AAK.

I recall back in 1980 when I worked for AEL (Aircraft Engineering Ltd) at Luton AEL were the maintenance arm for monarch and in 1981 rebranded to MAEL (Monarch Aircraft Engineering Ltd)

At the time I made a few visits to Duxford and G-AOVT to remove some engine Pipes and swap some panels to repair the Cubana Brit that had recently ferried over the Atlantic from Cuba on 3 engines !

I also recall the AEL engineering manager at that time Bill Borrowman had a Framed old style Pound note on his wall and was marked SOLD 1 Bristol Britannia G-AOVT for a £1

So I suspect it is no longer on the Monarch List of Assets

Regards to Corrosion the Brit was built like a brick Sh*thouse so should last a few more years yet 🙂

Thanks everyone, I had planned the Mirimar trip over a year ago before the Team announced 2015 was going to be the end, to date we have managed to see the Vulcan at Old Warden 5th July Fairford sat & sun Eastbourne and Clacton. Sunday 20th IWM Duxford flypast with the red Arrows would have just been the best salute you could do to british Aviation and the RAF
Just had a lovely reply from the Vulcan to the Sky team they too are sad they did request a flypast but no invite from IWM.

Pretty certain it’s final display is at Old Warden first weekend in October – I’d have thought that was relatively convenient for Peterborough?

    Adrian

It is Adrian unfortunately on that weekend I will be over in the USA at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar watching AV8B’s of the USMC at the Mirimar Air show !

Travesty or not the IWM is unlikely to have considered booking it because by no stretch of the imagination does it fit with the theme of the show. But remain to be suprised!!……

    Rothmans Aerobatic team Links

Just wondered if anyone on here has any info on the 1980 Rothmans team? This is the team that went on the North African tour. I’d like to know if there were any brochures issued for this team.

I’m also after any information anyone may have on Pete Jones who flew number 3 with the team. The only thing I know is he was ex RAF, so not much to go on!

Anything would be gratefully appreciated, as not much on the internet I fear, unless I’m looking in the wrong place.

    Thanks in advance.
