Awesome , thanks for posting,
Those engine cans are really cool, bet they could survive burial and everything …….
Really? Where, exactly, does anybody on this thread advocate anarchy?
Don’t feed the trolls, it only encourages them.
Pehaps, but several special weapon panels were aircraft specific. Here is a site that shows the Buccaner panel. need to scroll down http://www.nuclear-weapons.info/vw.htm#WE.177
or a direct link to the Bucc panel: http://nuclear-weapons.info/images/pilotpanel700px.png
Great site on the WE177 by the way.
The delivery options selector knob seems consistant with a WE/177 (not sure how the delay function is activated for underwater use?), but many aircraft were cleared for it.
Color of the panel, only one weapon and date on the panel of 1984 still suggests Tornado to me, but still a guess. Sea Harrier had a similar instrument panel color.
If you look here http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?132135-Buccaneer-multi-role-panel you can see that there are two boxes screwed into the Bucc panel which could possibly be swapped out for this one. For all I know this approach may have been carried over to other platforms – although the earlier SWC no. 1 which has exactly the same controls as the Bucc looks Tornado-specific.
The differences appear to be more sophisticated safety and arming including the USG, no depth mode and the function (yield?) switch.
Thank you everyone.
On reflection, I may have been thinking about this in the wrong way -it is not going to be aircraft-specific. Looking at the Buccaneer for example, a couple of these would bolt into the BRSL panel as a modification.
Interesting. No idea, but the gray panel color is similiar to the rear cockpit instrument panel on the GR version of the Tornado. Few public shots of the rear cockpit are out there, and some show a missing rectangle on the lower right side of the panel that is just about that size…. Jaguar and Vulcan panels were black IIRC. Do you think it is of UK orgin?
I don’t think it’s GR1 as I have one of those -SWC No.1 a huge two channel double thing measuring 265×145. I imagine this would have fitted in the rear left rack with the weapons stuff.
The unit in question is only 145×85. Not the classic Tornado bluey colour more browny grey . Deffo UK. Looking at your picture, it is within the range of panel colours visible. I can see the cutout but I don’t think it would be next to the IFF transponder – actually this picture shows two IFF transponders fitted which is a bit odd.
just to make it clearer for Smirky, it reads as Ground level / Retarded
me retarded?:highly_amused:
What about USG?
Yes no underwater option, unit is dated 1984.
[QUOTEwell if you take a careful look at a K-13 compensating sight, you will see great similarity between the K-10 and K-13 compensating gun sights
The point I was trying to make is that the K-10 and K-11 are said to be internally similar and distinct from the other types. I haven’t seen the internals of a K-13 but given the resemblance to a k-10 and that one of the parts is marked k-11 it seems a reasonable bet.

I’ve got a WE177 to go with the role panel. That was my retirement present to myself.
Now I look back at the first cockpit picture I can see the four mounting holes, two closely spaced on the left and two widely spaced on the right.
Interesting, it’s a nukes control panel which seems to have the same controls as the cockpit photo but a nicer layout. I guess the 9 and 10 nomenclature narrows it down to Buccaneer, could the LB-41 be a location on the aircraft or is it just a local serial number?
I’ve got a Bakelite one with an Air Ministry crown that has had the 366 ground off and been recoded 5cx/5162.
You mean one of these?
This one is for Westland Wessex helicopter fuel c0ck.
**** I’ve just said **** again.
We all love to see them but let’s not forget what it is all for -if I may suggest
1. to promote Britain
2. to promote the RAF
3. to promote excellence within the RAF and to aid recruitment
4. to promote the British aircraft industry
You can judge for yourselves how many of the above remain valid and let’s not forget that we have just deployed a smaller combat formation to Iraq than the display team.
Well spotted smirky, the left cam is a definite match I would say. The smaller cam I have is marked K-11 so possibly a slightly different model of turret sight!?
Rob
oh that is interesting, internet says K-11 is like a K-10 but for a nose turret – that might fit in with the other nose parts you have?
Bomberboy, as you say I know nothing and hadn’t realized that these things were stuffed with computers.
Think I have cracked it though, see pic http://www.glennsmuseum.com/bombsights/pics/k10_cu1.jpg
of a K-10 rear turret sight – would one of these have been fitted?
Bit of a guess,…….cam arrangement for gun interrupter in turret driving/sighting mechanism, so that one doesn’t shoot at ones own aeroplane. possibly top turret?????
No, this is quite the wrong tree, these are for arithmetic not just blocking the guns. What navigation or bombsight computers were carried in this aircraft?
