I hear Gazelles flying over dozens of times a day (living on Salisbury Plain!) and occasionally see a Lynx. I saw a Chinook a few weeks ago and once or twice a week see a Southampton UAS Tutor flying from Boscombe Down.
…but surely new designs are needed to combat the changing face of warfare?
If not why aren’t we still equipping front line fighter squadrens with Sopwith Camels…
I don’t feel the Apache is an inadequate attack helecopter just that it is not going to be 100% capable of fulfilling our future requirements, whereas an aircraft designed with tomorrows needs in mind might be a better choice.
which helecopter would I have chosen? Basically a new build/new design!
I understand where you are coming from when you say the Apache and Cobra are the finest combat helecopters currently in service but my concern is how much the combat enviroment has changed in recent years.
