What is it that is sticking out of the top engine of XM135 in the second picture in post 1?
…should someone tell the pilot???
Here’s 3 more to keep the ball rolling, although I’m not sure they count as ‘old’ airfields!
None the less….
I put WZ558 (what I could assertain as her RAF serial no) into Google and found http://www.ukserials.com had this to say about her,
WZ558 Vampire T11 d/d 07/04/1953, to Church Fenton dump 21/07/1965, since perished
Unfortunately this was all the info I could find.
Just a word (or more) to describe the pic…
Breathtaking, amazing, brilliant, scintillating, splendid, ‘cor’, champion, excellent, glorious, proud, radiant, stunning, super(b) and simply incredible!
I can’t think of anything else to say of such a great pic of such great aircraft.

OK, a more difficult one here I believe….

Well done, Old Sarum it is!
What about this one…..
ELP
The F-16/B-1 may be able to respond to an emergency call quicker than the A-10 but will it be able to deal with it any better? Can it loiter overhead for some time and if it was successfully targeted by enemy small arms fire how well would it be able to soak up the punishment?
I think the answer to this is, er, no!
Great idea for a topic Peter, I hope this one stays around for some considerable time!
This is my contribution….
The BBMF did a flypast at Boscombe Down earlier this week. Unfortunately working 10 miles away means I missed it 🙁
Do you mean this bird….?
I’m sure this is Platinum Plus…
Or this….
What about this, captions welcome…..
And this one is for ALBERT ROSS….
I live only a couple of miles from Boscombe Down and saw her flying over a couple of times last week.
I’ll keep an eye out for her and hopefully will be able to post a picture or two sometime during coming week.
Unfortunately there hasn’t been much flying today so I had a hunt on the net and found these pictures of 5 raspberry ripple Andovers ( http://www.airliners.net and http://www.thunderandlighnings.co.uk ) and Andover itself courtesy of Google Earth!
