So if I understand well (euh.. not sure) PLEASE STOP COMPARATIVE THREAD (something like… Mig-23 Viggen Mirage F1 Phantom who was the better oops it was mine I apologize :p . Will never do that a second time I promise ).
The aim of Key publishing is not making comparisons between two airplanes
    – first because this kind of thread is always biased by nationalistic feelings (Proud to be russian or french or serb or idiot etc.)
    – second because it is totally unesefull.
air war depend from various factors, not only from performances or technical levels. Its depends from pilots skills and many things, including some which can’t be predicted.). As a consequence, a lucky Mig-21 with AWACS support good pilots etc. can shot down a lonely Typhoon driven by an idiot.
Apparently SOC is totally fed up with comparative thread which went to nothing except people insulting each others (or not admiting another thruth than THEIR thruth). Maybe people like Flogger will never post on this thread (don’t read that. you won’t like it).
A striking example is “India to retire its MiG-25” : first started as an informative thread (Well, India had no MiG-25 in its inventory since some days) in ended
in a raging, bitter and unuseful debate over the merits of SR-71 Vs MiG-25 (37 pages and still on the way).

So we can call your plane Harrier GR11 no? :p

Just one thing : a common aircraft for both RAF and RN, waiting for the JSF.
The trouble : Harrier GR9 are attack planes , not fighters like the SeaHarrier they replace. More, pilots are frustrated on both sides : RAF pilots dislike carriers landings, and RN pilots… have no fighters anymore! Aparently SeaHarrier would be sold to India…

Remember enduring fredom ? The use of B-52 and B1B by the american was impressive during the campaign.
This gave ideas to europe : in march 2002 , a bomber version of the long range
A340-500 airliner (15900km range) was briefly discussed. This could have been Europe B-52 🙂
Another idea Mr Thorny : I always thought that the Concorde could have been the basis of a long range bomber to replace the V-force and the french Mirage IVA.
I’m actually transforming a Heller 1/72 Concorde kit into a bomber (fixed nose, bomb bay, RAF camo, refueling probe, underwing pylons etc). You can call this a Bombord or a Bombcorde (its like you want)
I heard of the concorde-bomber project many times, but I can’t find any pictures or datas on it. Anyone had something on this subject ?
I love the idea of upgraded Vulcans (something like the Vulcan B3). What about Vulcan with SRAM, ASMP,AGM-109 or Taurus?

Your questions are not dumb. There’s no dumb questions you know 🙂
1- Rafale span is not very big (about 9 meters). So, even on the small Charles de Gaulle, no need for folded wings. The Rafale have a delta wing, not “straight” wing with tail like the american fighters.
No problem with G force : american fighters with folded wings can take 7.5G or even 9G.
For the rest, others people with more knowledge will reply to you
    cheers…

    Rafale production

AdA and Aeronavale plan to buy 234+60 Rafale. But due to the cost, production will not end until… 2020 or more!
Mont de Marsan CEAM (test center) receive one Rafale every two months or something like that. The aim is having 12 rafale in August, to make the first AdA squadron in Saint Dizier.

Please be nice with me… I don’t want to back anybody. I just want to know : what do you think about that. Is it a legend ?
Jack Layton said once that they took a YF-12 to Mach 3.6 for
    >exactly 2 minutes, and very bad things started happening very
    >quickly. When they landed they looked the airframe over and
    >found they had melted most of the insulation off the wiring
    >on the engines. As Ray Scalise would say, “That was bad.”

Wow. Only two times? what a waste (and a pity 🙁 )
Thank you for your precisions! I heard the PKA-FA is in trouble… is it right ? when this plane is expected to fly ?

The PKA- FA is the future multirole russian fighter (not the PFA sorry). so the main contender is a different Su-47 (whithout the forward swept wing). The MiG 1.44 is not a competitor for the PKA-FA

Here’s a link with good photos.
the 1.42 was the demonstrator. The 1.44 should have been the production plane but never flew. Don’t know about Mig-39 (I thought it was an upgraded Mig-29)
su-47 and 1.44 were too specialised in air superiority. More, the pointed nose of the 1.44 can’t receive a radar. What the Russian air force want is a multirole fighter, and the PFA will do it.

No orders from the russian air force or foreign countries. This was only a demonstrator. It flew maybe a dozen of times at the end of the 90’s. What happened was : no money to buy it, and too speciliased for air superiority. It was the rival of the Su-47. The program had been launched in the 80’s to replace the Su-27 and having an equivalent to the F-22. The end of the cold war put an end to the program. Both were rejected by the russian air force 5 years ago.
The country prefered upgrade of its su-27, wainting for a new multirole aircraft dubbed the PFA (very uncertain but must fly in 2010). The main competitor is a Su-47 with an “ordinary” wing.

I’m shocking LOL ! 🙂 . Another crude world for my english vocabulary 🙂
For the ventral drop tank you mean Jaguar of the RAF and IAF. (French Jaguar made it). Yes I don’t know why they put rocket pods. Maybe its for an air show. It must be possible to attack a warship with rocket pods. apparently during the Falkland war MB-339 attacked a british warship with rockets! :0 Of course you need to overfly the target so very little chance of success…

Concerning the Rafale for the RN, according to Air&Cosmos last week it seems the rumor come from a eurosceptic, Conservative newspaper. They just want to bother Tony Blair’s governement…
