Is Peter the guy with the staggerwing, and was that you Janie running over to chat with Maurice when the staggerwing landed – at Abingdon Fayre?
Thanks for the update Neil. I was at this years and will be there next year all things being equal. It is a treat to be able to fly in, you feel part of it that way.
Anyway it was a great day and well done, see you next year.
I think that the word that describes these is Pride. Pride in ownership and Pride in construction.
I can imagine, I have to admire your courage though. Not only an unhappy wife in a nice yellow / orange combo but also pics of jets, some of which are still in service, on this forum!
Thanks for posting those, esp the spang Phantom – you always appreciate these things more after the event.
I bet your Missus will do somersaults when she sees that pic!
Was he an older guy? I will get up there, it is a classic case of liveing too close. I am only 10 miles away and regularly fly over Harrington from Sywell, I must make the effort.
Excellent pics, the light was right for pics, the weather between there and Sywell where I flew from was unbelievable…a good Fayre though.
Was the Historian Ron Clarke by any chance? He ‘was’ not sure if still is the official contact and historian on the site, he acts as a liason between the site and the US for reunions etc…anyway I used to work with him, an absolute expert on A/C gunsights and gun turrets.
A tilt rotor?
I am flying in – C152 G-XB, flying in with C152 G-BORI. Looking forward to it.
I really enjoy the film, of course it is completely inaccurate, but just an enjoyable fim, I also enjoy Kellys heroes.
I am afraid if people expect accuracy from hollywood films then they are going to be disappointed, in fact many documentaries are completely biased. I often wonder peoples motives when they criticise a ficticious story for accuracy, surely an impossibility.
Back to the original Moggy question though – I have no idea, sorry.
This is a good thread, I lived in Thrapston in the 70’s and 80’s this small town was where aicraft would turn finals for Alconbury, so all day we would have Phantoms going over, and it was nearly all day too. But the aggressors were up there too so there were a good number of visitors. Trouble was you took it for granted, aircraft I watched go over the garden included SR71 on an occasion, a pair of Drakens going toward Alconbury at what can best be described as up Thrapstons High Street (well Oundle road), very low! I was in goal playing football at school (Thrapston still) and let a goal in as four vulcans went overhead…tremendous and best of all almost knocked the deputy head into Pitsford reservoir when on a sailing course as two lightnings passed over head and I pushed the tiller right over to get a better a view and the beam hit him across the head – he was looking too so did not say too much. I wish I could go back and take a longer look at these sights.
I got some of these too for chrimbo. Still have not eaten them, seems a shame somehow.
I was just viewing the scrapyard thread, I feel like a chocolate now!! Esp when I saw the Phantoms.
I have read it, thoroughly enjoyed it. Being a flyer myself I really enjoyed the sortie in the cloud on the East Coast. Go read it.
It is easy to construct this list, mossie is probably the top of the heap for me, however, I agree with a couple of the other posts about the B26. That was a great looking aircraft and there were a good deal of em over here, and a few of their airfields are still active, I have flown to a couple. Seems poorly represented to me.
