To counter any arguments about display flying dropping off, less than a year after Rays passing, Lee Proudfoot and John Romain performed an evening display at Goodwood Revival (you MUST go at least once in your life), in ‘434 and Ferocious Frankie, and it was extremely impressive, though it seemed both were afraid of too much altitude (!) and the low dusk lighting made the nav lamps and blue exhaust flames all the more impressive. Ray would have approved….

I agree, you must go to Goodwood at least once, but you will find yourself going back year after year!

The day before the Revival begins after the annual cricket match, the two ship MH434 and Ferocious Frankie is simply the best display of the year.

At dusk, two Merlins, very little height, all in front the house. Fantastic.

However it cant beat “that flypast” by Ray when he and Lord March re-opened the circuit!

Great site and tribute to my most local former RAF Airfield. We used to have great fun riding our bikes up and down the main runway.

We cant even do that anymore, shame!

I think it’s time for TFC to have a new website anyway, there missing aircraft updates such as Sea fury t.20 and P-40f.

I think they have more important things on their plate that creating and updating websites.

There’s a lot more to the aircraft than how they look.

So why not paint the aircraft in a modern livery then?

    People want to see warbirds because;

    A) they sound great
    B) they look fabulous and as they did sixty or seventy years ago.

Now it seems to me that such a lot of effort has gone into restoring these aircraft to be historically accurate, and to me it would look better if a period style flying helmet was worn.

Please tell me you’re not being serious

Why, do you think it is in keeping with the aircraft being flown?

Fantastic day, many thanks to the BBMF for a great end of season spectacle and for my 2 year old daughter’s debut visit.

Can I suggest though an international ban on bone domes in warbirds? To me they just don’t look right.

I saw it about a fortnight ago in a laybye on the A57 at worksop heading north. Wonder where it’s been and where it’s going?

I was there last year and well worth a visit. I seem to remember it was about £1.50 to get in. A good collection of first world war airframes which I heard were part of goering’s private collection. Also plenty of engines as well as every variation of mig you can think of. We got a taxi from the centre of town which cost about £10.

I would assume that air leasing is the grace spit as I cant think of any other t9 spit in the country.

Ive noticed peter tiechman’s Mk X1 is not there also.

if all the flyable spits attend then there must be another dozen to add to the list!

    Hi Steve,

All I can say is…….I like it!

As I said it is pure fantasy, but how good would it be to see the 4 Lancs together?
I am lucky enough to have been involved with PA474, and allegedly there were negotiations going on last year to get CWH’s Lanc over here for the 60th anniversary of the end of WW2. As is always the case these days, it came down to money, hence it stayed on your side of the pond. I think that was the big chance to get two airworthy Lancasters together, and it didn’t happen…….shame!

I also believe that IWM Duxford (or a subsiduary (DAS??)), were invited to leave ‘their’ Lancaster outside for Legends, but I believe politics reared it’s ugly head. Can anyone on the inside shed light on this?????

It’d be so good to see all that you mention, and although I have a soft spot for axis machinery (blame my Dad!), and what I’d give to hear a DB605 on full chat again…..

While we’re on the Axis subject, Cosfords Messerschmitt 410 Hornisse, Black 6, Dornier Do 335 Arrow (to even see this in the metal would be heaven!), and a Bf 110! Oh, it’s all too much…….. 😮 😀

    C6

Could the MOD organise PA474 to go over to canada to fly with the CWH Lanc? Maybe do a tour of Canada and the States. Why does everything have to come over here?

I for one would make the journey to see that.
