Helicopter only. Would need quite a rebuild to carry anything else, & that’s unlikely as she’s too small for efficient operation of F-35B, & her layout is not optimised for fixed-wing operations.

There aren’t yet any larger follow-ons.

I’m sure the S. Koreans could build a carrier, but they’d have a learning curve. Their first effort would probably be sub-optimal.

Building a bigger Dokdo with fixed wing capability, while not a trivial step forward, wouldn’t be that much of a leap from the Dokdo itself.

The most important portion of the learning curve in building big deck ships has already been learned by Hyundai. The machy, the C3I, combat, manning, hull/structural design, DC capabilities, etc have already been done.

One of the biggest challenges for India in building the IAC is that it’s going from building a 7k ton warship to a 37+k ton warship without anything in between. It was a very good decision to rope in Fincantieri for the propulsion system design and integration and to use a Brit firm to validate the structural and seakeeping design. So, the Indians do know their limits and are working around them but still, the biggest problem in Indian shipbuilding are the yards themselves.

Don’t discount the Dokdo and possibly her (larger) follow-ons.

No, more orders for machinery have been placed in the last week (not much left to order now), & work is progressing. Speaking of “imaginary” ships, do you want to place a bet on whether IAC or the first CVF will hit the water first? :diablo:

    That’s just mean! 🙂

A POS if I ever saw one:

The very early tea leaves for the heavy lift RFP suggest the IAF going for a fleet wide upgrade of the existing Il-76s and also buying a modest handful of C-17s with options on another batch.

If all options are exercised, the IAF could become the second largest user of the C-17.

Printing dollars is passe. The correct term is “financed”. As in the Iraq war is mostly debt.

I’m saying that if they came out tomorrow and said they’d been spending that much, I can’t say I’d be too shocked at the figure. They’re probably busy researching the hell out of things we haven’t even thought of yet.

True. It has been almost 20 yrs since the B-2 was declassified. What has been the biggest de-blacked program since then? Bird of Prey? DoD is overdue.

Even if the US spends $1.2 trillion on defense. What’s the harm? As long as most of the defense spending goes into the US economy…? Think of it as a continuous economic stimulus. The countries that have to worry about high defense spending are the ones that spend a high portion of it on imports.

Yeah right. It would not suprise me in the least if it was in the 7-10% range given the enormity of the Black Budget.

10% of US GDP is $1.2 – $1.4 trillion. You’re saying the US could be spending that much?

Would having the Ukrainian S-300 systems dissected by NATO and/or US be helpful in compromising or negating its effectiveness?

Has the LCA completed its spin recovery tests yet? Spin recovery test would also confirm/set the max AoA.

I don’t think it’s a matter of Boeing or anyone acting like pricks on purpose. Boeing has to do CYA by following NISPOM and other US export control laws to a T. It’s up to the USG to exempt certain clauses. Boeing would love to have the business.
