He thinks the rest of the world operates the same way mainland China does…

If you think things are confusing now, wait till 2008 when the “Chinese Taipei” team is applying for visas

India Still to Decide on French Subs: Defense Minister
By AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE, NEW DELHI
India has not decided whether to buy six Scorpene submarines from France, Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee said Oct. 29 after the naval chief suggested the deal would be sealed soon.
“We are considering the proposal. But no final decision has been taken,” he told the Press Trust of India in Calcutta after meeting French Foreign Minister Michel Barnier on Oct. 27.
As Barnier flew out Oct. 27, Indiaβs navy chief of staff, Admiral Arun Prakash, said the two-billion euro ($2.5 billion) deal was “under very close examination at the highest level of government.”
“We have received assurance that the deal will see the light of day soon,” he said.
Barnier had pushed the sale, accompanied by 36 SM-39 missiles, in New Delhi talks this week.
Higher internal volume while maintaining the same aspect ratio would be the big benefit.
About 6-8 AAMs each Raptor (total of about 12 – 16 b/w the two)
And what makes you think that the Raptors would even attempt to get into a furball? They can keep taking BVR pot shots and the F-7s wouldn’t be able to do anything about it. The Raptors have the speed and agility to stay just outside the F-7’s reach.
If/when situation turns unfavorable, the Raptors can disengage. Can the F-7s? Can any plane of that vintage?
Yeah… saturation defense!
Any formation containing 15+ a/c would also be a nice juicy target. Most likely will attract more than one Raptor :dev2:
Also, when did the USAF start flying without a wingman? Would that formation be able to take down the Raptor FL and WM? Me thinks no…
The SSN774’s real value on the WOT will be its intel gathering abilities close to “areas of interest” and its SOF insertion/extraction abilities.
For everything else, there’s Tom Blk IVs and ADCAPs π
Harry, any word on the HJT-36 at the lecture?
The 300km range for the KS-172 is most likely a head-on range. Thus, the firing aircraft will most likely have to get considerably closer to increase the PK. At 150km, the firing a/c is dangerously close to the AWACS’ escorts.
Here’s a rough primer on blade cooling tech.
http://people.bath.ac.uk/en1jvc/turbine.htm
cool, thanks.
so, is that pretty common then? if so, why did an article i skimmed claim that china is only the second nation after the US to deploy such blades?
The word “common” is misleading. Definitely not every nation has the capability to produce this type of turbine blade. Produce is highlighted because it’s one thing to write research papers about it and another thing to actually mass produce it in quantity and quality. But it is “common” in that the jet engine producing nations (US, Russia, France, etc) have been building them.
cool! great pics huitong! thanks.
hyperwarp:
thats the pic of a new ‘hollow centre’ engine blade. apparently china is only the second nation to have feilded such blades.
any ideas as to what other advantages this new blade offers other then a reduction in weight (and purhaps faster spin rate?).
cheers.
The blade allows cooling air to be fed inside thus reducing the temp of the blade while allowing for higher temp and pressures to be handled and produced by the blade.
Most modern jet engines, civvie and military, utilize this mechanism of blade cooling. Some engine performance criteria are impossible to meet without it.
When does the Astra begin flight trials? And just how far along is the Kaveri really? Is there a realistic chance that it will be done in time for at least 51% of LCA production?
Your guess is as good as anyone else’s…
The IN’s carriers, especially the Viraat, will no doubt stay away from the littorals. Too many bad things can happen there. The Viraat will play the role of fleet air defence as the rest of the fleet, under the cover of Ka-31s and Harriers, will try to (a) hunt down PN assests and (b) make shipping terribly difficult for Pak traders.
Harriers guided by Ka-31s will have the advantage especially because the Mirages have to do two critical things:
1. Discriminate which ships belong to the IN and which are merchants, fishermen, USN, etc.
2. Be aware of where the Harriers are
Both those tasks require either the Mirage radars to be turned on and/or for visual ID. Doing either will give away their location, heading and speed.
The situation changes a lot if the Gorshkov with its 29Ks come into the pic.
