Another appendage measuring contest even before the appendages have been delivered. Sigh.

In any case, ranges of radars are meaningless without talking about what kind of signal drop off, RCS size, signal to noise ratio, etc.

Also, AFAIK, the Phalcon is true 360 deg coverage while each face of the Erieye covers 120 – 150 deg.

Kamran Khan is a pretty reputable reporter. Don’t dismiss this report too easily.

Any reason why there’s a pic of a Rafale in the Battleaxes’ room?

The ship launched Brahmos’ range: What range does the Oniks have? If Brahmos has the same dimensions and weight as Oniks, the stated range of the Brahmos is pretty moot. It might be more prudent to go with the Oniks’ range.

    Getting back to pics…
Although not air force pics, interesting nontheless.

This is the naval variant of the Prithvi missile named Dhanush. The missile will most likely not enter service rather it is being used as tech demonstrator for testing launching ballistic missiles at sea. It is not clear what technologies exactly are being tested with the Dhaush and its apparatus.

Getting all sensitive about one hilariously misspelled word is fine if you haven’t got anything better to do, but don’t whine if others aren’t as touchy as you are.

Was that supposed to be a barb directed at me in particular?
    J’ accuse!

One of the safety guidelines for a two-engined plane is that it must be able to fly straight with one engine. If one engine goes out on a two-engined plane, the remaining operational engine will induce a yaw moment since it’s off center. The rudder surface area must be enough to be able to counter act and manuever in the opposite direction if need be.

With the rudder surface area as the main design driver, there’s two (practical) design trade offs : First is to have a really large single fin with the req’d surface area. Or secondly, two smaller fins with the req’d surface area. One has to run design optimization tools to find out what’s the better choice for a particular aircraft.

After years of research, all they could do is add more weight and drag by adding another fin?

    Interesting…

Sweden’s got an interesting choice coming up:

$2 billion in Erieye sales for Ericsson
    or
$2 billion in artillery sales for Bofors (SWS)

    They can’t have both… 😀

The situation was win-win for Pakistan actually.
If they got the Gripen, then they would have a the high-end fighter, they’ve been looking for, for the next 30 yrs.

If they didn’t get the Gripen, then their economy improves. Either way, Pakistan wins.

So HAL’s supposed to assemble 42 Hawks in 2 yrs (08 to 10)? Can BAe even supply that many CKD and SKD kits that quickly? What was the fastest rate of Hawk production?
