Too bad that between P15 and P15A, there is going to be a lag of about 10 yrs. Even worse, the IN should have gone ahead and built 3 more P15s with some incremental upgrades in b/w the P15 and P15A time lag.
When is the first P15A hull supposed to be launched? Commissioned?
Also, in the din of the P15A stuff, don’t forget about the other stuff in the report: Namely that 12 IAI Herons are already in service and the req for 40 new gen ASW/MR helos.
I have read that the IN is happy with the Herons and want more. Any confirmation of the same?
Some LCA mockups, models, and pics have shown a certain air-to-ground config where the inner-most pylons are doubled up in tandem to carry two 250 or 500kg bombs.
So, the two inner-most hardpoints become four, the two midboard hps, the two outboard hps, the one central hp makes nine. Plus the sensor (IRST/LDP/NAV) hp hanging off the port intake.
Notice the two outside models and their inboard pylon config
The IN will most likely keep modifying the SSBN and its primary missile. The missile’s real range will not be known or at least publicly acknowledged. Like the Brahmos, with a stated range of 290km, probably has a range far greater as the missile it is based on and share dimensions with has a far greater range.
In 5 yrs time, the IN could go from having no nuke subs to having 3-4 of them.
Singapore Air Force, Army Units To Train in India: Report
By AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE, SINGAPORE
Singapore will train its air force and army units on Indian territory under an expansion of a defense cooperation pact signed last year, Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean said in remarks published June 30.
Air force units will start training by the end of the year, while army personnel will follow next year, he was quoted as saying in the Straits Times.
The training will be carried out in camps run by the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) on long-term leases following talks to expand defense cooperation.
Training in foreign countries will boost the capability of the SAF as well as help the city-state overcome the space constraints at home, Teo said.
“We are always looking for opportunities to train with other armed forces because it provides the SAF with a new dimension in its training,” he said.
Singapore already trains its military personnel in about a dozen countries including France, the United States and Australia.
This will be the first time that India has allowed troops from a foreign country to train on its territory.
Singapore-India defense ties have grown steadily since the mid-1990s with regular exchanges of visits by ministers and high-level military officials and the signing of the Defence Cooperation Pact in October.
Chinese Fighter Jet Crashes in Storm, Killing One
By AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE, BEIJING
A Chinese F-7 fighter jet on a training mission over central Hubei province has crashed into civilian housing, resulting in the death of a child on the ground, state press said June 30.
The crash occurred June 29 some 48 miles from the provincial capital of Wuhan, after the plane “malfunctioned” during a thunderstorm, the Beijing Times reported.
The pilot of the jet, belonging to the air force of southern China’s Guangzhou Military District, parachuted safely to the ground, it said.
The jet crashed into two homes, with a 12-year old child dying from severe burns, it added. The other child was only lightly injured.

As a NNS poster says: 90,000 tons of diplomacy!
The 10 new Mirages are for attrition and reserves, not just attrition.
Nice UCAV 🙂
It’s only called the “Saber slayer” and not the Sabre, Mirage, and Starfighter slayer 😀
But who cares, we’re in another he said – she said.
I guess, one of the attributes of the Israelis we have overlooked is the ability to conjure.
Can’t the EL/M-2022 be mounted on a Heron? If it can, then you will have a AEW-lite looking at the lower priority volumes that the bigger AWACS aren’t.
AESA in general or for fighters in particular?
The Green Pine / PHALCON is AESA, even the ones India will get. Now they are working on a navalized EL/M-2080 (also AESA) for their future surface combatant.
They are probably about 1-3 yrs away from having a viable fighter sized AESA.
They are doing about 1000-1500 miles per jump. Maybe a datapoint on the Jag’s reliability and range? Almost a 11,000 mile jaunt to get there and then doing relatively high intensity exercises. To me, speaks volumes for the Jag’s reliability and availability.
Correct me if I am wrong…
The Gorshkov battle group would most likely consist of:
– 1 Gorshkov CV
– 3 Delhi DDG
– 3 Talwar FFG
– 3 Shivalik FFG
with the possibility of
– 1 Akula SSN
Each of the escort surface ships can carry at least two helos with the CV being able to carry 6-8. Gives a helo total of around 24 – 26 for just the battle group. That would leave room for about 14 – 16 Mig-29Ks on the CV.
Added later: Of course this scenario is a wartime scenario. During peacetime, the CVBG would have less escorts, the exact number depending on availability and desire.
Looks like the CVBG would be low on fixed wing assets and the primary function of the 29Ks would be for fleet air defense considering that the IN doesn’t have anything like the SM-2 or Aster 30. Nonetheless, the CVBG would be able to monitor and sanitize a good bit of volume in the ASW, AAW, and ASuW realms. Definitely not the best solution but a good start for the IN to start showing blue water legs.
If in 10-15 years, the PLAN shows up in the Indian Ocean with a carrier that can hold 40+ aircraft, the IN would seriously have to reconsider going with a larger carrier.
BTW, in the IOR, is there any other navy that would have the raw capabilities of that one IN CVBG?
