HJT36, also known as Sitara, are equiped with the Snecma Larzac engine but the later batches will have the Al-55 engine.

Maybe stealth means flying very low…

    Naaah…
Nowadays it’s chic to add the term “stealth” to everything to make it seem more advanced than it really is 😉

Iran Makes Its First Anti-Ship Missile
    By AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE, TEHRAN

Iran has begun manufacturing its first locally made anti-ship missile, a “kind of cruise missile” named the Kosar, the state-run news agency IRNA reported May 31.

Quoting the Islamic republic’s defense ministry, the report said the missile was being made by Iran’s Aerospace Industries organization and had been “designed for defensive purposes.”

According to the report, the new missile can target its goals in three different positions; coast to sea, sea to sea and air to sea, and it was designed to be either televised or radar guided.

“The new missile has been designed according to geographical specifications of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman,” the report added, without specifying its range.

“Kosar” is a Koranic term referring to a river of eternal life in paradise.

Guys, stop bustin PLA’s nuts over the news article. All he did was post a blurb about the IJT in a discussion about the IJT. Where’s the harm?

Yes, there was an incident with the ejection seat in prototype 2 and yes the problem(s) were fixed and now the plane is flying. What I am interested in what happened to the pilot that got burned.

So since theyre building this jet trainer, does that mean they will no longer have a requirement to buy the Bae Hawk?

The Sitara is just an IJT (intermediate), intended to move pilots from basic jet/piston trainer to a jet platform that handles more like a combat aircraft. The AJT (advanced) will take the IJT grads and build up even more combat capabilities into the pilot like initial weapons trainings and combat manuevering.

BTW, I still can’t believe the canopy of the Sitara is that huge.

I had a chance to see the bird first hand over the weekend at Andrews AFB. The pictures don’t do it justice. It was a static display and had all of its bays open. There was even a T&E pilot gracious enough to explain stuff to novices and enthus alike.

Even more beautiful up close. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a still cam but did take all aspect azimuthal shots from walking around the bird with a digividcam.

The show also had a JSF mockup but not close to as impressive as a real Raptor. Also, I got to oogle the AH-64D, AH-1Z, E-3, Rivet Joint, B-52H, etc.

More prosperous countries have more interests to preserve, not just on their borders but beyond. Hence, the need for large and capable forces.

Poorer countries interests (and threats) are usually just on the border and even internal. Hence, they don’t need the kind of sophisticated stuff (and logistical and command structure) the prosperous countries do. Not that the poorer countries can afford them in the first place.

So, wealthy countries have a lot more at stake than smaller, poorer countries.

    Uprated Larzac thrust: 3,745-lb
    AL-55 thrust: 4,845-lb

A thousand “extra” pounds of thrust, at around similar SFC, for a light trainer means that the rookies will have more thrust to get them out of mistakes and provides a larger safety margin.

Hey Harry, how may Do-228s have been upged with the Elta radar and elop equipment? How many will get the upg eventually?

The Do sold to Mauritius, was that from an IN stock or a new build?

thats the smallest engine for size of plane I’ve ever seen!

That’s why the Al-55 is coming coming in. For a while an uprated Larzac was being considered but the Al-55 won probably because of commonality with the Al-31FP. Also, from the above article, the Al-55 would seem, to have been funded by the Indians if they have full manufacturing and export rights to it.
