MTA is in the news? We must be a couple of weeks away from AeroIndia ๐Ÿ˜€
I would just take the story by itar-trash with a pinch of salt.

That’s HAL’s cue to bring down and dust off the MTA model from the attic for the show. You know the model: The same one they’ve been showing for the last 10+ yrs.

Any tangible news on the MTA? Any part of the prototype made? Wing? Fuselage? A solitary rivet? This aircraft is like the Duke Nukem Forever of the aerospace world: AKA vaporware.

BTW, when Duke Nukem Forever did arrive, it was garbage ๐Ÿ˜€

Yes, this post is pretty abrasive but I’ve been reading about the MTA for, it feels like, two decades. Pardon me if I don’t take this project seriously. Apparently I’m not the only one: The Russians don’t seem to either :eagerness:

Osprey, a possibility for the IAF?

    V-22 Osprey: Options for India
    By Air Marshal Raghu Rajan

While the Indian Navy has shown preliminary interest in the Osprey as a potential carrier-borne Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) platform, it is now understood that the Indian Air Force has evinced interest and asked for briefings on the aircraft for the Combat Search & Rescue (CSAR) role and operations by Special Forces.

I love the fact that an ’empowered delegation’ is on the way… who the hell was negotiating for the last 3 years then?

    Obviously, the “enfeebled group”!

    Parrikar outlines alternatives to Rafale

Parrikar made it clear that the IAF needed to look at the issue of fighter costs. He said, “It is not alwaysโ€ฆ go and purchase it. A cost effective purchase is also important.”

It was not a smart idea to delink the technical eval from cost. Sure product X might have better capability than product Y but how much of a premium are you going to pay for that capability differential is an important thing to know before painting yourself into a corner by choosing the vendor for product X.

Several dozen prior to 2013. 15 are planned for delivery this year and the next, as far as the Russian mil is concerned at least. A few non VVS orders here and there.
EDIT: KumAPP made 9 in 2013.
    EDIT2: And 11 in 2012.

What are Russian plans for this helo? Is it going to continue to be a boutique type or a mass produced type?

Regarding Indian use, this is less powerful than the, admittedly yet to fly, HAL LUH. So, limited high alt capability, which is the driving capability for all Indian mil helos. On top of that, it will bleed orders away from the HAL LUH for non-high alt work. I am yet to see a single benefit to India from building this Ka-226T.

I am sure that India is grateful Russia has graciously offered to build this helo in India but this seems like a political work around to losing the initial LUH (not HAL LUH) deal to Fennec.

First time I’ve seen a Flanker with the IRST ball not offset to the side. Great pic, btw.

Just one of my random musings:
A day before the new Indian administration was announced, the Russians publicly announced the lifting of the self-imposed embargo against Pak.
A few days before bare-chested Putin is supposed to arrive in Delhi, the Russians announce an agreement for a broad range of military-to-military ties with Pak.

The Russians might be messaging that they are not happy with decisions that this new Indian govt has taken or is about to take. What caught my attention was the timing of both of these announcements. The Russians seem to really want to talk about something with the new govt. Or, all this could be nothing and mere coincidence(s).

As far as I am concerned, I couldn’t give two sh!ts about to whom or what Russia sells. It will do what it has to do. My interest was piqued by the timing of the announcements.

In completely unrelated news, it seems like almost every new defense program in India has gone the Western way and now possibly the Far Eastern way (Japan).

One of the offsets from the C-17 deal was for Boeing to build a high-alt engine test facility. Aero engine development will continue in DRDO but under new programs. Hopefully, a flying testbed is also on the cards.
