The aircraft was Zenair CH601 Zodiac G-BVPL. Sadly, the pilot, David Trueman (65) who lived at Glenmayne, outside Galashiels was killed. The wreckage of the aircraft was shown on Border TV last night being removed by the AAIB to Farnborough.
I think the Germans did a rather a good deal here. The Dutch P-3Cs always seemed very well maintained and were quite up to date.
Why didn’t the RAF think of buying all 13 ? At least they would have been in service years before the Nimrod MRA.4 and certainly at substantially less cost.
Did the RAE at Farnborough ever fly the MiG-23 or MiG-27 (or both) they are supposed to have ? Apparently ex-Libyan AF captured in Chad. In terms of this thread – any pictures ?
