Buccaneers and Hunters only over this period. Tornado did not arrive until mid-1983.
Wrong i’m afraid. The Tornado was a regular visitor to all the RAFG Stations at this time. Remember, we are talking VASF here, not Squadrons
From the SYAM website
Once again, the Great British weather has spoiled a good weekend. Checking the Museum website just now, I found the following:
Sadly, due to a waterlogged field, it will not be possible to host the outdoor part of this weekends Falklands Event, the area being unsuitable for parking large aircraft in its current state. The museum’s Falklands collection will still be on show in the hangar alongside the other exhibits advertised throughout the weekend. We apologise for any dissapointment caused however the current poor weather is unfortunately beyond our control. 🙁
Update report
Welcome back with the updates Thomas. I was in your museum last week and was extremely impressed with the restoration job done on the 25 pounder gun.
I’m not usually into artillery but it made me stop and look – and admire. It looks like new so I hope it fires ok on Saturday and you all have a good day. I’m hoping to make the trip back up to see it.
Will you be pointing it at the Stadium of Light or St James’ Park – sorry, the Sports Direct Arena??? 😀
Fake
I have a full colour photgraph of a 617 Squadron Tornado signed by Wing Commander Guy Gibson. Could it be a fake??? 😀
XV202 arrived this morning.
Very interesting, that Bf 109 with the cannon mounted through its spinner. Was this a rare field modification?
It was so rare that it became the first aeroplane to fly backwards when it was fired. Definitely not for the faint hearted 😀
I come on here for discussion on principles involved in aviation preservation but as pagan01 has lowered this thread to one of unnecessary personal insults, I am withdrawing.
Chris should be recomended for his work not kicked in the nuts by some office herbert who really does not know what he is talking about and is being instructed by persons who know even less
What is there to commend? He has bought a Harrier for very little money, fabricated a few panels and gave it a coat of paint – and then applied a whopping great price tag.
Chris is in it for the money. Don’t confuse him with the thousands of enthusiasts and volunteers who do it for love and the preservation of aviation history. They don’t give a thought to “how much will it fetch”
RAF Yearbooks
I think I’ve got the full set from 1966 when they were called the “Royal Air Force Souvenir book”. Became the “Royal Air Force” in 73 and then they renamed it “Royal Air Force Yearbook” in 75. It’s been published every year since then under that title.
Which museum are you collecting them for? I have several duplicates and would be happy to add them to your collection.:)
Constructive and helpful?
Ok – use masking tape and get the right paint.
Meteor repaint
I like Meteors and made a long trip to NEAM today to see this one.
I really hope that this is not the finished product!
It looks pretty awful in the colours that have been used. I have never seen any Meteor operated in this scheme. Only the underside of the aircraft seemed close to the original scheme.
Haven’t the good people at Neam ever heard of masking tape?
I was told by a passing volunteer that they were trying to restore it to the colour scheme used when Ray Hanna flew the aircraft with the Evergreens. Well sorry guys, but this is nothing like it.
However, there’s hope yet. The volunteer also said that they were expecting to put on another coat of paint. Please, please, please, use the right shades – yours look silly.
For the uninitiated — who?
I’m delighted that Fluffy has received this accolade but I’m none the wiser as to who Fluffy is or why he’s received it.
Come on Fluffy, help out we uninitiated here, the suspense is killing me.
A message from the Yorkshire Helicopter Preservation group
From about mid 1965 to Oct 1966, when the Ark went for major refit, the two Ship’s Flight Whirlwinds (HAS7s) were XM684 coded ‘041/R’ and XM685 coded ‘042/R’ supposed scheme was overall Midnite Blue with white serials, codes and titles. Haven’t had time to
look for any photos yet but perhaps this info can give the enquirer a point in the right direction.
Try spelling Shackleton correctly and it works
It’s from a Whirlwind helicopter
