I feel sorry for Pakistan. Karachi was once the main Airport of South East Asia. Now it’s dead, British Airways/KLM/Lufthansa have all gone.

Gilgit is a pretty epic Airport though:

Yep, taken with a phone, not the greatest quality, but its all I can afford.

This is getting stranger. I was listening to the PIA on the radio and it said something about Dubai and I was like WTF. I rang up my mate and he says there having a two hour stop in Dubai. Anyone know why?

    Strong but true.

There are older aircraft in the air that don’t have the same problems. I’m not pointing the finger at PIA and saying their maintenance is sub standard, but the number of incidents there have been since the LBA service started does make you wonder what’s going on!

    Paul

Yeh will if you look at the other older aircrafts, they are owned by richer companies and owners. Good old PIA is owned by the crappy Pakistani govnerment. They really should sell privatise the airline, currently it’s a shambles. However they have bought LBA back to life.

I believe the incident involves a fuel leak but don’t quote me on that! It has to be said, the PIA service seems to have been a catalogue of cockups since it started!

    Paul

I think thats because their A310-300 are old and outdated (from my own experience). Really need to get some new ones but they don’t have the funding. Which BA would start the LHR-ISB route again, but can’t see that happening for a few hundred years yet lol.

The first Concorde to land at LBA was flown in by Air France in a 40kt crosswind. The Captain described it as interesting.

    😮

Actually, the prospects of selling it aren’t good… There are a number of 747-400s already sitting in storage, and there’s pretty much no airline looking for passenger 747-400s right now. There are also some 747-400Fs sitting in storage and slots for pax-to-freighter job are booked up for quite some time into the future, so a conversion is unlikely in the near term. In today’s business climate, I suspect the realistic options are to park it or part it out.

    Recycle them:cool:

    Nice Report!

By the way, the “To Let” does not have an “i” missing, it means that there is space to lease!

PS: This apparently is my 666th post

    lol, it was a joke;)

Just a update on the trip report I promised. MAN-ISB-LBA

I’m a long way off yet but I’ve getting the videos up on youtube now. I suspect they will all be up by next week.

After that the photos go up on photobucket.

Then the trip report is written, then I will distribute it on various forums including this one.

I’m guessing it will be finished in around two weeks.
