In 20 years time when these things are flying all over the place the extra 10 month delay will be a footnote in some aviation books. If an airliner needs a380’s they’ll just wait, one or two might cancel, but that’s about it.

We know looks don’t matter much, but…

This things is certainly no F-14 in the looks department is it.

It looks ‘cute’ for lack of better words. I feel like sitting on a park bench and throwing it some breadcrumbs.

It might prove to be a good plane, no doubt, but they’ll never make a Top Gun with this thing. Reminds we more of the planes from the spoof Hot Shots.

Hurricane? New? Read up on your Battle of Britain chum.

On the other hand, Chimera (or Chimaera) – according to Chambers’ Dictionary ‘any idle or wild fancy’. Sounds perfect.

I’m well aware of the British Hurricane, but there is no US Hurricane, and since they wouldn’t call it a Cyclon or a Typhoon then Hurricane seems appropriate, and would be a new name for a US fighter.

As for Chimera, well it is a mythical monster, which was explained in detail by Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible 2. Maybe it’s a bit evil though.

I thought Fury was an okay name till they nixed it, or something along those lines.

I’ve got it, the F-35 PENETRATOR …Sounds masculine!:P

I don’t know, it’s such a non aggresive looking jet that it really doesn’t matter what name it gets, it looks like a little bird to be honest, maybe f-35 chicklette or battle budgie.
