I woke to this news this morning, here in Australia.
I couldn’t help but think of Squadron Leader Kenneth McGlashan AFC (Mac) and his lovely wife, Doreen, and how they would have loved to have seen the Hurricane take to the skies again. I am sure they are looking down from a tremendous vantage point ‘upstairs’.
Today I will listen to my taped interviews with Mac, flick through my notes on P2902 and my photo album.
What a great day.
Cheers,
Owen

Hi again all,
As Mac’s aircraft is set to fly again, I thought I’d share a few images over the coming weeks.
Here are his RAF ‘dog tags’ from World War 2.

Owen

Hi Fouga23,
There was a thread on this some time back http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?86917-Hurricane-P2902-G-ROBT-how-much-original-structure-is-being-used-in-restoration
Cheers,

Hi All,
Here’s a shot of the initial restoration back when I was writing ‘Down to Earth’ around a decade ago! 🙂

Hi All,
The reports that Mac set fire to the aircraft are not entirely accurate. He attempted to, but was unable to light the chart he was going to use to get the fire going. He was midway through the process when he came under fire from ground troops and consequently departed the scene. He never actually set the aircraft alight…contrary to the reports in the media.
Also, thanks Andy! 🙂
Cheers,
Owen
Does proof-reading for the 20th time count?:) ‘Without Precedent’

Hi All,
Is there any word on when P2902 might be completed?
Cheers
Owen
I love the Mustang, but “pretty”?
I don’t think that you can go past the Spitfire.
Cheers
Thanks Daniel for the ‘heads up’ on this project.
I was totally unaware of its existence. I visited Col’s hangar a number of times many years ago.

Owen
It’s fantastic to see the safe completion of the A350’s maiden flight.
For the sake of the industry, success by both Airbus and Boeing would be the best outcome. It would not only guard against a monopoly, but it would leave two long term players continuing to push the other to new boundaries with the likes of Embraer knocking on the door. Governments will always push the development of military aerospace and much of this technology will flow on to the civil ranks, but for conceptual change in the airline industry, the marketplace must speak. And their voice is best heard by more than one company. (The A350 First flight’s ‘higher stakes’ http://tinyurl.com/kd9x3xj )

Hi all,
That’s really very kind of you all and very much appreciated.
Owen, I have replaced my version of ‘Down to earth’ already so no need to worry.
I managed to save about 30% of what was damaged after freezing the books and dealing with them one by one.
However, most were beyond the point of even trying to save which was a shame.Needless to say the fish tank and book shelves are now far apart!!
Cheers all
Gerry
Best of luck Gerry.

Owen
That sucks, Gerry. Looking forward to your list and I’ll help if I can as I know how heartbroken I would be in such a circumstance.
Edit: a collection after my own heart. Was your copy of the McGlashan/Zupp Down To Earth a ‘special’ one?
What rotten luck.
If I can send you a copy of ‘Down to Earth’, please just PM me and I’ll organise for it to happen. (It may take a while to travel from Australia, but it will get there.:))
Cheers,
Owen
Hi All,
I was parked next to its little brother at Queenstown NZ last week.
Here’s a low res snap of the ‘All Black’ A320.

Hi Ewan,
I’m sure I have some post-WW2 scrapping photos from Tocumwal that my father took when he was down that way. I’ll PM you if I can find them. I think I recall Vultee Vengeances; would that be correct?
Cheers
Owen
Thanks Foray and GrahamF.
Much appreciated.
