I have heard from a friend in the loop that EK had definite plans to come to YYZ, though I haven’t heard anything in a little while.
Delta have already rejected this merger

I wonder what would have happened to the agreement Delta have with Boeing, seeing Airbus in Delta Colours….
The merger stated above was rejected. As of yesterday, Delta were reviewing the letter (according to today’s New York Times).
Yes, I think they will regret dropping Shanghai in the long run (unless they have some plan they’re not speaking about). It’s practically the business captial of the world now (if unofficially). I suppose they’re covered through Lufthansa though.
Does this mean that their plans to make Vienna an entry/departure point to access the east are playing out as planned? (dropping routes, I mean)
I still say there is room for expansion in North America and using Dublin as the transit point. What about a flight from Ireland to the east coast of Canada, say Halifax. A very celtic group of people. Philadelphia? Although, maybe JFK covers that already. I would say YYZ but AC only seems to manage a summer service there.
There’s also something to be said for having flexibility in your fleet to meet seasonal demands/shifts. That’s one criteria that AF have done very well, with such a large fleet type they can change up their aircraft where and when it’s needed.
Plus, if both Boeing and Airbus are begging you for your business, take advantage of both companies.
Exactly. It would be quite a chore to get to Toronto as Hamilton is roughly 80 km away and not the prettiest place on the planet.
I suppose I’m also thinking beyond EI, though it would be great to see them ensure their longevity by feeding their European routes with long-haul traffic, but promoting Dublin to other airlines as well year-round. I think the plan would involve serious commitment on behalf of the Irish government and various jurisdictions in the country. This could also be an alternative for SNN in the absence of the SNN layover. Fly into DUB from abroad, tour the country on a set day package then fly out of Shannon to your next destination.
Agreed, the loss of Oneworld does present hurdles, though they still have codesharing agreements.
Are AA and BA still going to feed flights to EI through LHR? If not, I think it will hurt the airline.
Yes, Zoom does fly this route and AC in the summer months, but it may interest you to know that after the US, the UK is Canada’s largest travel destination, so there is high demand for service to UK cities and BA only serve London.
