Very interesting and thought provoking
I must reiterate, I am not the owner and have not seen the piece, only a photograph.
All comments have been passed on.
once again thank you
Chris
I can confirm that 1349862 Sgt Robert Hardy Maxwell MACFADZEAN was buried at St Gregorys Churchyard, Kirknewton. 14th May 1943, service conducted by WHP Hills, Chaplain RAF. Not far from RAF Milfield.
I have visited the grave and seen the Burial register.
Chris D.
Don,
Thank you,
That eliminates all three as being pilots at 57 OTU.
The man I am looking for was most probably at 57 OTU, but the report which mentions his name records 37 OTU to which I can find no trace of.
Thanks again
Chris
Hi Don,
I have followed up this lead.
Unfortunately DJ Hows was with 512 Sqn and a Dakota pilot Towing Gliders at RAF Zeal in March 1945.
I have spoken with his daughter today. sadly DJ Hows passed away August 2011.
You might be able to help a little further.
In his log book, under the section DUTY (Including Results and Remarks) on every flight he records things similar to this:-
B56 – Broadwell
B56-Y74(Frankfurt) -R31(Leipzig)-Leibourget-B56
B56-B118-B160-B118-B160-B118
B56-B154-B56 (Ex POWs & Royal Marines)
The family would like to know what this means
kind regards
Chris

Hi Don,
This is looking very promising.
On a very close inspection of the F1180 it is DJ (not DT) Howes,
Thank you for your valuable time and effort.

Andy,
The MOD/JCCC/Landowners etc were exceptional. Project design was complete, all signed, County Archaeologist dragged their heels for over eight months, and time ran out.
Chris
Andy,
I have to agree with the two earlier comments, Very much a case of ‘they don’t want us on their turf’.
Chris
Dave,
Thats the one.
Thank you for you help
Chris
Many thanks,
I will try this approach next.

Chris
