    I am pretty sure Art Scholl’s famous Super Chipmunk was also Lycoming powered and still survives (in the Smithsonian?).

    Some more information from my notes:

    The private airstrip is Stanton-Selby House, Northumberland 55°12’11″N, 1°48’1″W

    G-ARWB – Registered 2/1/62; CoA issued 15/3/63; Used as test airframe for Super Sapphire engine; current on the UKCAR, painted as WK611

    G-ATTS – Registered 29/4/66; Re-engined with Rover TP-90 turbo; CoA issued 19/10/66; Cancelled 20/10/69 to USA; N2247 – Registered /69; Re-engined with Ranger with a fixed pitch propeller; current on USCAR 2/11;

    G-IDDY – Registered 26/9/79 with c/n HA/MM/4-81 & NB.130; Flew inverted from France to England 30/10/82 in 10 min. 40 sec. Beating the record set in 1934 by a Tiger Moth by over 5 mins; cancelled 30/12/99 to USA; N311SH – Reserved /??; reservation cancelled 30/12/99; Registered /?? with c/n HA/MM/4-81; last noted on rebuild in the Wilmington, Delaware area; current on USCAR 2/11;

    There are several other UK Chipmunks with different engines, mainly used as
    glider tugs.

    G-INFO shows 124 Chippies on the UK civil register: not all will necessarily be airworthy but would guess 100 or so will be capable of flight.

    From the serial 146 on the side, it is G-BSXD.

    Permit valid until 24/6/2012.

    Was seen at Sywell last Friday.

    I would rather have “A bottle in front of me” than “A frontal labottamy!” 🙂

    Having just had a quick look through the local free Metro paper at work (who said males couldn’t multi task), you have just reminded me to book this afternoon off work so I can go to the local beer festival. hic!:D

    Slightly higher than 5 meters and with no contrails, but sometimes there are some smaller ones…..

    and there are the occasional bigger ones.
