Enjoy it while you can Belfast, as they dont take tradition onto hand anymore, you’ll probably keep it for a few years and they’ll drop it again.

For BFS passengers and myself as a once stupidly loyal BA customer, reminiscent of the British Airways school of thought…

Incidentally, on the same subject I hear Willie Walsh in his new position claims that BA are of the opinion that they never axed the BFS-LHR shuttle… merely ‘suspended’ it 🙁

Only a departure pre 0700 would make people switch from bmi to Aer Lingus as it would get them into LHR sooner than the first 0700 departure from Belfast City. They may benefit from providing a say 2200-2300 arrival from LHR into BFS as bmi are limited by BHD opening hours.

Yes, I agree 100%. As an occasional traveller to LHR with BD, it never ceases to amaze me how many people still wish to travel Business Class for a 1 hour flight… including our Deputy First Minister 😮

Still surprised though that nobodys started a route to Brussels which to me seems like a much more obvious choice than somewhere like Budapest

There’s a plane load of people each and every day from Northern Ireland who are happy to contend with poor car parking and organised chaos at Dublin airport, or who fly across to England and connect with either Eurostar or a connecting flight. Even when charging return fares of up to £600 Sabena managed to achieve loads of 80% on their Avro RJs from BFS up to 2003.

    Extra aircraft from NCL apparently.

Ah yes, of course… I’d forgotten that NCL is converting to the A319.

Great news and hopefully shows that the EU routes now have sufficient breadth to sustain more than a single carrier. I wonder what (if any) response we’ll see from Jet 2.

Less room at Belfast City than there is at Belfast International.

I hear City of Derry Airport is looking for new airlines! Im sure a good deal is on the cards especially if your not too worried about bird control and sinking into taxiways! :diablo:

Additionally, I’m sure any airline could look forward to copious amounts of taxpayers’ money being thrown at them by the British and Irish Government and would benefit from the close proximity of an alternative landing strip at Ballykelly

The UK and Republic of Ireland officially operate a joint travel area – hence a passport is not required for travel between the 2 countries, albeit for other identification purposes it could be useful. For instance on checking into some hotels I have been asked to show my passport, albeit it often tends to be at the behest of migrant workers. Most locals in the Republic of Ireland would know ID is not required.

The only time I’ve ever been asked to show a passport was upon landing at Cork Airport on a flight from Belfast, shortly after Jetmagic commenced the route when someone from the Republic of Ireland’s immigration authorities obviously hadn’t been preoperly briefed.

I would have thought that if Continental can make a go of Belfast with a New York service, then Leeds Bradford should certainly be ‘doable’.

Okay, so admittedly the nearest competition to Belfast in terms of transatlantic competition is 2 hours down the road in Dublin. But the Continental service is certainly far from cheap and it is generally significantly cheaper to fly across to the UK Mainland and make a connection to the US from there. In fact when I looked recently at travelling to New York from Belfast, it was cheaper to fly to London, overnight at a 4 star hotel and fly out the following day to New York than it was to do it direct from Belfast

So I guess there are people who are prepared to pay extra for the convenience of travelling to a local airport and the right aircraft in the right configuration can certainly make servicing such people a viable proposition.

That colour scheme is vile, plus the slogan is just plain confusing

Hi all, not been around for a while but a quick question. As BA no longer fly LGW-NCL I have decided to go with Jet2 any feedback on these guys most welcome as I have never used them before many thanks Dave:confused:

It is a while since I’ve flown with Jet2 as recently on the Belfast – Leeds run, flyBE has been cheaper. However, if you like flying on 20 year old 737s that are past other airlines’ ‘use by’ dates, you’re in for a treat 😀

Otherwise their service and standards to me have always appeared pretty unremarkable in my personal experience – probably not as good as easyJet, but better than Ryanair.

I’m sure the solution to City of Derry’s woes is quite simple… more money from the British and Irish Government

I’ve only flown from the place once and it struck me as shambolic, with apparently 2 people for every job and the general impression was of an airport that was poorly organised, poorly managed and poorly maintained.

But then again as someone pointed out on local radio, Derry City Council probably knows as much about operating an airport as an airport operator would know about emptying bins and burying the dead, which I suspect is not much 😉

I must admit I do find the Jet2.com caption funny and admire them for having the proverbial spherical objects to do it.

But I can’t help but wonder just how wise taking a pop at Ryanair really is. I would have thought Jet2 – an airline which I genuinely do admire – would be better spending their time and money on other things.

Yup, I had the flyBe ‘overweight’ experience in Jersey, flying to Gatwick. I volunteered to get off the plane together with 3 other passengers as the plane was overweight and got very nicely compensated for it too.

Still managed to make the connecting easyJet flight in Gatwick to Belfast – so money for old rope really 🙂

Interesting… I guess Sir Richard Branson will be instructing his technicians to hastily remove the 4 engines for 4 long haul graphics from his A340s and B747s 😉

FCA operate the 767-300 from EMA-Florida and the A321 on their shorthaul charter flights. If they did ever operate the A321 from EMA to Florida then they would of had to stop to re-fuel a couple of times. The 757 has been used a few times on some longhaukl routes by FCA to cover for a tech aircraft but this is very rare and even this has to stop to re-fuel.

The daily Continental service from BFS to New York is operated by a 757.

I doubt bmi R would take on Flybe on ABZ-Belfast, they have been concentrating on Euro biz routes out of Dyce, eg. AMS, KRS & the soon to start BRU, as well as increasing MAN & LHR.

Also I think fleet-wise they are running their JJs to the max at the moment on their network.

Maybe more jets on the horizon?

(Don’t get me wrong, I think bmi R would be a good airline for Belfast).

Yup, I would welcome the return of BMI Regional to Belfast with open arms. At the time that flyBE announced the acquisition of BA Connect, the local BMI representative made a strongly worded statement that flyBE would not have everything its own way and we could expect new route developments from Belfast.

But to date… erm, well nothing.
