And here’s PIC 19 then and now.

So this is the route, as we know it so far, that they took.

Nice find. Thanks for posting.
It would be nice to make a map and pinpoint all the confirmed places! Let the pictures come to us!! 😉
The thought had crossed my mind too and I see that you have also pre-empted by finding locations on Google Earth (where would we be without it?). Alas I scanned all the photos onto my laptop, and uploaded to Flickr all the ones you see here, but now the hard drive has stopped working before I had a chance to back-up. So I will have to scan them all again.
They are numbered in the order they were scanned straight from the album so they should be in the order that they visited the locations (that’s why I thought it strange at first that the photo of the planes was later in the book and not at the beginning with the others – see a previous post of mine).
I might do the same exercise with his slides from the 60’s.
Tony.
Well I am gobsmacked. Some of the photos I put up on here I thought would get a response (which they did) but others, like the German border, I hoped but never thought I’d get anything. Thanks everyone for your time and efforts. Maybe I’ll put some more up shortly. They will really test you. 😉
Tony.
Excellent comments from everyone, many thanks.
Tony.
Ok. Here are some pictures of their holiday. Can you locate any of them?

I know this one was on the border with Germany but it is a nice picture of the car.

Love this shot of the eagle on the radiator.

Thanks Mothminor. I have also got boxes of slides that my uncle took. This one might interest you.

Hi Tony,
That fuel coupons must be from Belgium or France as the language on them is France. Do you have any idea to which airfield the flew in the Netherland? Perhaps you have any photos of the arrival?
.
Now it’s funny you should ask that.

I have added these two pictures again. Have a really good look at them and you will see there are some differences.
Notice anything?
Well if you haven’t, they both show the same plane but the sun is in a different position on both. Also the plane G-AGVB appears in both pics. The port prop is in slightly different positions in both pics. They wouldn’t have turned the engines over with the passengers just getting I’m sure. Also, the second photo was in a different part of the photo album, not at the beginning with the others. I just thought it had been moved but perhaps that’s where it should have been.
Also the trees seem to be closer in the first photo.
I think the second picture was taken at the destination and not in Lydd. Actually looking at all the photos in this series, the sun is either in front of the plane (with the girl holding the camera) or behind the plane (JOP 303 getting on plane). Perhaps some of these photos are of the cars getting off as well?
Any thoughts?
Tony.
Thanks for all your interesting comments. My dad is 100% certain that they flew from Lydd. He told me that, I didn’t ask him. Don’t know where he flew too though.

On the inside cover of the album, with the coupons, is this small ticket/label thing with Arnhem on it. So they must have gone there. There are a few landmarks photographed in the album that I could post if someone could identify where there are taken?
Tony
JOP 373 looks just the ticket for a hot drive : )
I wonder what happened to these cars or even if they are still around? Nice thought but I would doubt it.
From ‘silvercityairways.com’ – fleet !
Many thanks bazv. Looking at the rest of the holiday photos it looks hot and sunny so after July 1949 would be a good guess at the date.
Tony.
Final few.

Oh, and I’ve just remembered. These pictures were taken at Lydd.
Tony.
This is great picture of a lady passenger waving goodbye to someone. Note the seat she is sitting on. Thanks heavens planes these days have more comfortable seating.
