Very very nice pics. Great developments.

Yeah! In a few years the LCA perhaps will be a multirole fighter. Let us all party like it´s 1979!!!!

Ownership is comming back to sweden 🙂

IRRC Investor bought back the major share of SAAB from BAe already back in 2005. After the Austria-deal fiasco….

    😀

“these old mirages” are not exactly “old”.. for about half of them, their first deliveries date from 2003 (basically, these are still “new” aircraft), and the other half is older upgraded airframes, delivered in the 90’s and upgraded after 2003 to 2000-9 standard (basically, rebuilt “new” a couple of years ago)

what I find strange is that brasil basically, bought their Mirage 2000Cs (french decommissioned fighters.. now these are old 😉 ) some 5 years ago and want to retire them already… which may indicate they just needed an air superiority fighter until a more modern one comes into service (the F-5BR obviously wasn’t enough for that role). The UAE mirages should give them a significantly increased capability, in A2A as well as in A2G

What if the Swedes adds some hot nordic big breasted blondes along with those those Erieyes. I KNOW that the french could´nt possibly match that kind of deal!

What if SAAB/Sweden would throw in a couple of Erieyes in their offer. Would that be enough to counter these old Mirage 2000s?

(I know Brazil uses Erieye and they have been a huge success there, specially in catching 1000s of drug smugglers and closing down hundreds of illegal air fields in the amazons)

edge i’m kind of whith you. i can;t see why or how SAAB will suddenly promote Gripen, Gripen NG and a more advanced gripen sized aircraft (surely that negates the NG? and demotes Gripen to third world status?

    doesn’t make sense.

Let´s see… The Swedish Airforce has decided to cut down its size and that leaves some 50+ fighters. Now these fighters could either be sold in the condition they are in or could be rebuilt in to NG-kind of planes. What to do?
The Gripen NG is just a natural evolution of the existing Gripen line-up while a future SAAB Gripen fighter would be much more stealth and need a redesign. This kind of fighter would be for countries like South Korea and Japan that wants a lot of ToT and not just buy off the shelves from USA.

If Thailand pays the same price for equipped Gripens (with weapons, accessories, service and spares) as does the Swedish Air-Force, then I may require a re-think .

Actually Thailand pays less then the Swedish Air Force did for their fighters. Thailand payed som +$60 mil /unit while the SwAF paid $68 million/unit. As usual you fail big time. Is there anything else you wanna write and fail at?

Edit: And Thailand bought six, read 6 fighters, Sweden bought 204. You do know that when you buy a large sum it´s usually cheaper?

I think Sens, Maskirovka, etc. must do some basic research before repeatedly asking the same questions on Tejas, like it’s timeline, selection of engines, etc. Wikipedia’s article on Tejas is very well referenced with news reports, official announcements, interviews and technical articles.

    Once again :-

    1) IAF has ordered 48 Tejas Mk.1.

    2) In Dec. 2009, Eurojet and GE officially submitted their bids to supply 100 engines for Tejas Mk.2. The RFP also mentioned an option for 40 more. DRDO will announce the contract winner in a few months time.

    3) Point 2 means that, IAF will order atleast 100-140 Tejas Mk.2 units. They may be powered by either the Eurojet or GE-F414.

    4) In a TV interview (posted here for the “umpteenth” time), IAF chief said that IAF is happy with Tejas’ progress, IoC will be achieved by 2010, and the first squadron will enter service in 2011.

The above points have been repeated here and backed by references, ad nauseum. Still, if some don’t understand, or don’t bother to do a “wee bit” of research, then their intent to “flame” is clear.

BTW Abhimanyu. You are not in the position to claim any facts or come with timelines. You´r credibility are gone long time ago….

Yeah…that´s all nice. But in the early 1980´s a bunch of people were allocated a few hundred of million dollars to make way for a new multirole fighter that could replace the aging MiG-21s in the the 1990s. But nothing seemed to been happening until 1991-92 (or something in that area). Isn´t it a fair question to ask, what happened during the decade before that and with the money? A decade of party down with lovely girls?

Edit: FYI In the 1990s Sweden experienced the worst financial crises it had ever known. The interest rates went over 500% and the value of the Swedish krona was down more then 100%. This little “experience ” made the Gripen project cost more then $5 billion higher then expected. That´s what you get when buy the engine etc. from abroad….

    JAS 39 Gripen
The funded definition and development began in June 1980.
    First squadron operational in 1995.

    LCA
Development approved by Indian government 1983 as MiG-21/Ajeet replacement.
    First squadron operational in 2***.

    T-50
The mother program, code-named KTX-2, began in 1992,[6] but the Ministry of Finance and Economy suspended KTX-2 in 1995 due to financial constraints.[7] The basic design of the aircraft was set by 1999.[1] The development of the aircraft was funded 13% by Lockheed Martin, 17% by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), and 70% by the government of South Korea.[8]
It was designated T-50 Golden Eagle in February 2000, with the final assembly of the first T-50 taking place between 15 Janua
ry and 14 September 2001.[1] The first flight of the T-50 took place in August 2002, and initial operational assessment from 28 July to 14 August 2003.[1] KAI and Lockheed Martin are currently pursuing a joint marketing program for the T-50 variant internationally. The South Korean air force placed a production contract for 25 T-50s in December 2003, with aircraft scheduled to be delivered between 2005 and 2009.

Actually I think you are wrong. IIRC Gripen was funded in 1983 (or -82) and the the first division was operational in late 1996 (or officially in 1997)

The MK1 IIRC has the Elta 2032 or a hybrid of the native MMR and the Elta 2032. It seems BVR weapons will be the R 77/Derby

    Operational?

So back to the original question. Do you think the LCA can be an export success ? Yhea, right…..

    Maskirovka

So you somehow take that as proof that there is no radar for LCA program?

the IOC is without the integration of the BVR combat capablity, the FOC is after all the several tests have been explored and all capabilities have been integrated.

A radar has more funtions to perform (other than providing targeting information to a BVR missile).

I´ll guess that is a NO.

Maskirovka,l Could you please expand on what you mean by the LCA has no radar?
Even a 10 sec google thru wiki could have brought you more information, so why play ignorant ad nauseum?

Since you seems to know everything, please inform me. Has functional radar been installed in any of the LCA demos? Has it worked according to planned and fired a BVR missile? Is that the radar LCA has chosen to be the its radar and what´s its name?

The MK1 is not the prototype. Its more equivalent to the LSP (Limited series production).

    .

Ok…So the LCA Mk1, is going to be produced with no radar or BVR-capability? Wow, that is awsome, producing an early 1950s jet in 2010. India should buy the blueprints of the SAAB J-29 Tunnan instead. At least that fighter had a radar…..
