Plus we would have train all of your technians to maitain all the aircraft and repair them beacuse it would be a western aircraft and Russian Technolgy is still very good plus the parts for the planes like Migs are a lot cheaper and you can also buy a liscense and produce some of the parts locally.

You cannot be far from the truth… Russian spare parts are quite rare , and unless Russia Owe your country money , you won’t get a steady supply of parts.

As i said in one of the Aeromagazin issues, a designer of Orao spoke how they were not allowed to get more powerfull (i recall french) engines because of the political decision at a time. I will try and find the article somewhere.

Political decision ? starnge …. more likelly an technological embargo.

but romenia was in a better postion and you retired 8 years ago and we were all recoviring all of civil war plus i also read that the j-22 only got an underpowered beacuse we were doing this joint and you guys were in the warsaw pact and we couldnt get a supersonic engine so we just had to get the one just under below but the j-22 without any weapons on can reach supersonic speed.

Regarding engine is not that we have to be blamed …after all the Afterburner engines design emerged from Turbomecanica :p :diablo:

it can reach supersonic in a dive only.

Btw, all that talk two years ago of the J-22 being retired by 2006… BS. It’s still gonna be around for several good years, and the recon versions maybe even longer.

We retired ours IAR-93 8 years ago

How is the J-22 going to be replaced by a helicopter?! Maybe some of the recon duties can be taken over by UAV’s… But a helicopter can never replace a striker. The striking duties of the J-22 would be replaced partly by a modernized G-4, and partly by the new multirole jet.

this actually happend .. we replace it with IR330SOCAT and Lancer A’s.

One last thing, J-22 is underpowered. The Rolls-Royce engines do not provide a good thrust to weight ratio. The British engines were obtained rather then the French ones, which was a purely political decision at a time.

Vipers where the ONLY engines available on the market. there was a limitation for selling military use items to socialist countries (engine thrust must not pass 20kN)

Of over 200 J-22s produced for Yugoslavia

Any source on that . As far a I know only Romania had produces 200-220 IAR-93’s for our usage. http://www.incas.ro/romanian/departamente/programe_aviatie/iar-93-eng.htm
this is he iste of the main design institute involved in the YUROM project.

Flogger….to make things clear to you…Syria ADMITTS to about 80% of those losses Israel claims to have shot down. They ADMITT to them. From what I’v read…they admit to about 57-60 or so fixed-wing aircraft losse sand several helicopters. So…if the Syrians ADMITT to most of these losses….and they correspond pretty well with Israeli claims…then HOW can you say there’s ā€œNO EVIDENCEā€ because there’s no pictures of all these wrecks?? Because YOU haven’t seen the pictures of the wrecks??

You forgote one thing though. Syria admitede that at least 15-20 where shot down by their own Airdefence.

You hit the nail here flex šŸ™‚

F-16 matured to similar multirole capabilities as MiG-29 but started from a different end (albeit came always two or three years sooner than the corresponding MiG, I admit that).

Early F-16s already had PGM capability (LGBs, Mavericks) and lacked any kind of BVR, MiG had BVR from the very start but lacked any serious A-G modes. After that F-16 came with ADF version which was fully comparable to early MiG-29 in A-A plus advantage of A-G. Then F-16C Block 30 and MiG-29M came. These would be pretty similar, me thinks.. AIM-120A vs R-77, AGM-65 vs Kh-25, Paveway II vs KAB-500/1500R/L, slotted APG-68 vs N-010, we can put these on par.

MiG-29M removed teeth problems of the vanilla model, pretty much eliminated range shortage, pulled out the old N019EA radar and even mastered carrierborne version and capability to use rough airfields, as well as added antiship missiles (Kh-35, Kh-31).. RD-33Ks still had roughly a half of service life compared to PWs and GEs, but that would have been eliminated by cheap unit prices – a feature that becomes a big advantage in war and does not disturb that much during peacetime. N010 was surely twice as heavy as APG-88 but it worked and overall maneuvrability was not affected. Together with integrated HMS and KOLS I see the M platform a bit better than Block 30 series.

Then MiG was stopped due to anyone in Soviet Union having much bigger troubles than care of fighter aircraft. Block 40 and 50 were issued. Even if these do not constitute a major leap in capabilities, they still added SEAD, HMS, JDAM, AIM-120C, color LCDs, wide angle HUD, new fairings with ECM, digital RWR, CFTs and other stuff. MiG has not provided anything new for ten years and only caught on later with MiG-29SMT-2 or M2.

Now F-16 is in the lead with Block 60. MiG will be answering with Ks for India. All in all I think Russians managed to pass thru this difficult era better than we have initially expected. Yes, they don’t have 5th gen or AESA ready but with their limited budget that is no wonder. Now, despite Su-30 series selling like hot cakes MiG managed to sell out the old stocks, has found three contracts (Yemen, Algeria, India) for newbuilds and made its place in the new PAK-FA project, I think they will get over the difficulties somehow.

some hights and speeds a relatively parity with the MiG-29 but the MiG-29 has AA-11 Archers.

Only one MiG-29A has been lost to an F-16 and that was thanks to an AIM-120

The F-15s have shot down around 8 MiG-29s but always these fought with superiority in numbers and AWACS.

The F-15s are not better simply they had the strategic and tactical advantage, larger numbers and fought older MiG-29s.

The F-15 fought fighters that were very limited in radar ground control and almost nil AWACS support.

Modern MiG-29C and MiG-29M or MiG-29SMT won`t fall easy specially if they can field a larger number than any western opositing fighter force.

Cope India has shown the MiG-29 is quit dangerous in fact the US bought MiG-29s from Moldova because without studing these tremendously advanced fighter high results are impossible

What ever you are smoking … quit.
R-73 was caracterised by germans to have a seeker in the AIM-9L categories. It is not a wonder weapon. Actually they consider it a flare addicted missile.

The F15 patrol downed 2 mig-29’s in a single engagement. Whant number superiority? The AWACS was to late in that engagement, F-15 pilots already aquired the Serbian planes without AWACS support.

US bought the Moldovan 29’s not because they needed to study them(they already study the Luftwaffe 29’s), but because those 29’s where nuke wired and to stop the aquisition by a foreign power.

No is not that.. Gripen was tested and presented from 2000. That was the opinion of the Pilots. They liked more the offensive capabilities of F-16’s.
Anyway almost all pilots favoured somethin’ american .

    But we shall see.
