An even better collection of photos overnight. Back in 1971 I got to visit Eagle when she came to Wellington, New Zealand on a non public day with the Aviation Historical Society of New Zealand so we got to see a few other places.
While checking out the aircraft list, I found that on the public days which I think there was two, 26,000 kiwis visited the ship.
The Bristol F2B is the replica, ZK-JNU. Of the above there will be three rotaries, something new for those who have never heard one.
ZK-FKD, Rotec R3600.
The engine came from the USA and was overhauled by TVAL. That was on the bristolscout site but has since been removed. It arrived in the UK with the two BE2e’s at Old Warden.
Whatever happens , Dave we will get to see ten Lancasters, not two and half.
The Agricola might not be beautiful but it’s a lovely aeroplane. (mike). The hopper is right on CoG and I’ve never heard a bad word about them. They just arrived in New Zealand a year two late and the development was hindered by it’s size. The strange thing is that I’ve seen that Agricola in the hangar where the two BE2c’s were assembled.
Great
I cant quite see the number on the first aircraft coming out of the container?
Re ADS (Aerial) I worked for them for a couple of years early 1970s operating out of EGMC, there were some great characters associated with that company,Max Lacy,Don Judd,Ray Andrews, Ladi Marmol
I saw Don Judd two days ago. On the strength of knowing Don and John Rika in 1978, Laddi offered me a loading job but I already had a job with British Rail.
This thread has gone quiet for a while. Has anything happened in the last three months?
I think we have our own ones, just like the good cheese, “it all takes time”.
Does any one know where LY-?SZ ( a full registration please) came from, any history would be welcome.
The shot of ZK-CCV at an unknown airstrip is actually Te Kuiti Airport, home of the Bennett/Waitomo Airtrucks.
The visits of the Agricolas to RNZAF Whenuapai were to TEAL who were into aircraft design, modification, repairs (and assembly of Fletcher FU-24’s). They did the design work and installation of the the Continental 260HP engines.
