Yanks, POF and March are do-able in one day!
Hi Guys.
We (6 musketeers in a Mobilehome) did also this trip. We started at Yank’s Air museum (while we thought we were at the Planes of Fame facility).. Anyway we did this one and it was pretty impressive to walk between the working areas where there were some spraying activities at the moment. We had some roll outs of aircraft from one place to another and the volunteers were very helpfull of letting us out in their “waitingroom for the patients” and so we photographed alot more then we had hoped for ;).
After that we went to POF and what a magnificant place is this. Especially for the young(er) warbirdlover like me ;)… I like museums and this is one of my top notches… because the majority of the collection still flies or has a valid flying permission)… We did both the Planes of Fame museum in our trip of three weeks and although Valle isn’t a BIG one… The lady that singlehanded runs this museum is a true gem in my eyes…
The museum of March AFB was done in one hour because of the time we “wasted” at Yanks (not entirely wasted, but it did cost some time ;)). This collection also pretty impressive with a great range of aircraft covered in this great museum. (This museum also featured in the movie ‘Space Cowboys’).
about 100+ aircraft in all shapes and sizes in one day isn’t a bad thing right ;)?

I thought the only dutch twin engined aircraft that i can think of used Mercury engines in stead of Pegasus engines?
Well,
IMHO this is a Fake fotograph… i looked on the internet for Zero trainers and the Canopy layout in this picture is just wrong…
1. This has a “Texan like” canopy with the rear canopy sliding forward (, but all the foto’s i did came across of the internet (search for A6M2-K Zero Trainer) although most pictures are from model aircraft, they do point out that the rear canopy is sliding backwards…
2.That pole you see in the middle of the cockpit is not common on the foto’s i found on the internet.
3. The guy infront of the aircraft doesn’t look that Japanese to me..
4. It’s hard to imagine that Japanese smoked pipes ;)…
Here is a small picture of a “real” Zero 2 seater…

But the whole canopy layout is different…
@ John
I think you are right on this one… look at this image

Told you guys it just looked like a Texan ;).. and this shurely does look like one (exept for the tail section).. and it shure does confirm my forward sliding rear canopy… (nice word combo huh?)
Edit:
Just found this link relating this aircraft to the T-6 Family

If you want Griffons there are easier ones to get to than the ones on WR963!
No, reading through some of their board they’ve been following our progress for a while. We’ve had a few Dutch visitors this year (amongst other nationalities), I’m wondering if it was any of them?
Rich
Hey Rich,
Although we visted you last year, we still had a blast around the old girl. We hope to visit you next year again as we are planning a UK trip.
