I really do see a problem with those who criticise the costs, look at hourly rates for an oil change on a car or a dentist visit, try getting a plumber! Everyone has a cost, even a volunteer in terms of insurance and accommodation. Go in to the real world, things cost money, even the government is gradually realising that……
Can we just accept it costs a lot to run this aircarft and that UK plc can not affor it without a very, very rich benefactor. Looking back 95% of this thread is total rubbish/uninformed and undeserved criticism. The fact that the team have got where they are is amazing,to continually listen to the snipers here must be so disheartening.
It is always the workers prerogative to critiscise management but how many of you with your worldly wisdom have managed a project of this size and complexity?
So here is a thought:
If the Vulcan team had said 5 years ago, please give us a pledge where by each enthusiast will, for the next 10 years agree to donate a £1,000pa each so we can fly the aeroplane and for that you will get no extra privileges apart from watching a Vulcan at an airshow that you will also pay to attend – then how many people would have signed up for what is in effect a second mortgage.
Alternatively we can have the in house approach to fund raising which when all is said and done does get the money, or have I missed the point?
He was quoted in Telegraph as saying he wanted an aviation artefact (Blenheim) at the entrance. If you go to the cemetry at adjacent Stanton St Quinton there are a number of graves often paired where pilots under training lost their lives. Hawker Hart being used in 1940 as a trainer.
An important site with interesting architecture (Houses are similar to the 1930 expansion designs at Duxford but in local stone). This seems a suitable way forward to retain parts of airfield by moving forward and creating a local employment hub.
“Interesting that it has only done 40 hrs in 3 years since it first flew after the latest restoration.”
Many PPL holders struggle to do that!
For those who didn’t read the FL facebook page thoroughly :
“For safety reasons, visitors won’t be able to return to their cars in this area until after the flying display”, so you can collect chairs, frying pans etc but not during the flying. I guess (and do not know) same may apply to Landwarfare, tomorrow we may know. Many years ago we were grateful to see a Spitfire and or a Hurricane….
I haven’t got clue, we will have to wait for the details and plan, probably a good idea anyway when you think about it?
Love the spin ” To enhance your visitor experience at this year’s Flying Legends Air “
Always with those negative vibes Moriaty.
Maybe someone has taken a good look at the May show, the regulation and discussed and got agreement for a novel solution, maybe that is what has happened, maybe it has taken a lot of behind the scenes work to get something that works and is within the regulations. Maybe we should be thankful they have done this so we have an airshow, Maybe.
So
“Winter wheat is not sown in rows like that Moggy, I would also go with with Alan and say spuds.
Is your month right for your picture?
Other crops grown in rows like that shown are leeks & onions. “
So to be clear is this a library picture, not Jan 2016, Cropping in background seems unlikely for January?
Bit off topic: What field crop looks like that in the background of this photo taken in January? https://www.flickr.com/photos/dwhitworth/24032238709/ ?
Forty years of preservation and operation by a team of volunteers
Perhaps that is what I need. For those of a delicate nature I have omitted the photo – issued 11/03/75 number 338
Well done guys: Click Here
OK, bit of thread drift into Legends ticket prices Just went to look at they way they work, bought in advance. In the above example: 2 standard adults at £31.05, 1 Senior at 24.30 and one Disabled at £16.30 = £102.70 ie £25.68 per person. Not £28.53 each. (Seniors have discounted rate at Legends I note.)
Just to be clear we have evidence that tanks were used like this for Napalm from BWB and a tank that matches that description (c/w fuse). Why don’t we go with that?
Insecticide would be a none starter with that tank for obvious reasons
that time of year, what might have been, just saying, better look at TFC diary for today’s news

Map was used for the 75 air display briefings? Blast walls / Original T 2 Hangar were auctioned and gone by 66. The blast walls were demolished with explosive I seem to remember 🙂
