To help with the geography of Duxford airfield in the past. I have annotated where some of the BofB film scenes were located on this early Duxford Airshow map. The map shows how Duxford was laid out at the end of the airfields operational career not exactly how it was in the mid 1970’s and includes items removed in the 1960’s including the 1950’s concrete blast pens at the dispersal points. Is anyone under the age of 25 contributing to this discussion? There may lay the answer?
to be clear , someone said something on Facebook and that is the basis of this thread? Time to move on I think
And there have been no comments about the Gladiator taking to the skies once more, very restrained indeed.
Well I would like to say a hearty WELL DONE to the TFC engineering team, very nice indeed chaps.
Nice pics appearing on TFC diary pages 😎
Bentwaters runway was tied up most of the summer last year for this film. No conspiracy theory neccessary. Cars and part mock ups only, no aeroplanes despite what you see in trailer 😉
😉
office type bod
Do The TFC have one of those then?
For an evocative shot of today it appears “Greg” did the business today:

I might be misunderstanding you here, but apart from brief occassions of maintenance/movement surely XF708 has always had its wingtips fitted?
OK
In order for it to fit in the hangar it had the tips removed and was initially juggled with a (Nuffield) tractor and jeep into the far end of Hangar 4. The stays on the hangar doors were also removed to increase the gap. This operation may not have benefited from a modern day risk assessment but was in the spirit of the times.
As an aside a bit of that chestnut picket fencing still remains along Hunts Road I believe……
This picture looks like it was taken within days of the Shacks first arrival.e. the Weds to Saturday as it is adjacent to the tower where it parked up with the sister ship on arrival. The wing tips were removed almost immediately and are out of this shot…..possibly an important picture therefore.
It would be interesting to know if the T-29 taxi shot was on arrival or during the fuel depletion flights which included a number of smiling EAAS volunteers as ballast!!

That isn’t the same as the IWM / TFC list though, is it an official version?
No one caught Classic Wings Harvard today then??
Maybe it is a Stealth Hangar? Area 51 and all that?
Look guys, I don’t want to start a flame war or suggest that TFC haven’t got it right but think about this.
I have taken DCW two pictures of the Fiat, given the likely aperture setting for the ambient light in the hangar and any distortion due to temperature differentials on those two dates. Applying this in a formula I found on google for concrete floor surfaces I think it is much more likely to be a movement of 4.5cm.
Sorry if that upsets anyone but sometimes you do have to just say what you think. 😉
Shame the operator could not be contacted to verify the facts surely? Or am i being naive?
