Buy the Ukrainia, refurnish all Kirovs…
I don’t understand this hope to restore all those big cruisers. I think that will be horribly expensive. Better to let go the Slavas and concentrate resources on Kirovs.
According to RIAN the caliber is 300 mm,… like Smerch rockets. I think unifying rockets calibers is right (scale and efficiency of production).
I think Tornado-G is a lightened version of Smerch (to get air-transportation capability) with better accuracy, real-time targeting capability and enhanced range.
So far as I understand it the F-15E is not currently scheduled to be replaced in USAF service by the F-35A, which begs the question of what it will eventually be replaced by. As I see it the plausible possibilities are these:
1. More F-35s
2. Evolved F-35 (ala F-16 > F-16XL)
3. F/A-XX/NGAD
4. UCAVs
5. Buy some Su-34 and the licence to produce them as Made in USA?
Nothing with certainty. Photos of last S-400 TELs seems to indicate that the 400 km missile may be a further evolution of the 48N6 family, like a sort of “48N6E4”. The little data available indicate that the mass of the “big missile” is around 2.000 kg vs 1850 kg for a 48N6E3. This give some weight to this hypothesis. I.e. a 2.000 kg missile can be accommodated in canisters like those witnessed a month ago.
New long range missile for S 400 system. You can read in many S 400 articles about 40N6 missile. This missile have 400 km range and can intercept missiles ballistic missiles. Propably based on the 9M82M.
I was ironic. There is no consensus on what a 40N6 is.
48N6E3 has 250 km maximum range.
Right. The 400 km range of missiles from last S-400 batteries deployed near Moscow is achievable with a missile very similar to the 48N6E3 with improved guidance systems launched on a lofted path.
There is no way a low flying cruise missile (i.e. Tomahawk) pointed to Tula could be downed by an interceptor launched from Moscow. Earth curvature!!
These slow low flying targets are can be downed just in a circle around just 50 km from the objective.
So, that puzzles me is the apparent low priority given to integrate 9M96 missiles on S-400 batteries. These small missiles are much better suited to down Tomahawks than large 48N6E3 missiles
I also agree, Moscow is overprotected respect to some important regiones that would need at least a battery to confront Cruise Missiles waves
Moscow S 400 regiment is equipped 9M96 and 40N6 missile ?
That’s the most extended question in the forum. 🙂
9m96,… No yet.
40N6? What’s a 40N6:confused:?
If you refers to the 48N6E3 with better control and guidance systems to launch in lofted paths to reach targets at 400 km, the answer is… probably yes.
If you refers to the hyper fast missile with a speed in the order of 3-4 km/s and able to hit targets over 150 km altitude, the answer is … Not. This is the weapon of choice for the S-500 system and will have a range around 600 km.
So, the main S-400 weapon is a 48N6E3 missile with a 400 km range, 40 km altitude reach and 2-2.5 km/s speed.
I mean changing the antenna for a PESA will much improve the radar performance.
It is not neccesary to equip them with Irbis, but something like a Bars will be great.
Still using stone-age radars? The twin cassegrain antenna is clearly the bottleneck of the system. Increasing processing power cannot do much more to improve the radar performance. 🙁
My sympathy to you and your compatriots for the saddening tragic events that happened in Japan.
Glad to see you back.
100% agreed. 🙂
Su-27SM3? What is this?
A big pocket!
Russian Navy will receive “up to ten” Yasen class subs until 2020:

The project is really going ahead. It’ll not end like the “Sea Wolf” as someone said.
10 :eek::rolleyes:
Is this number realistic?
