Being the Su-27 larger than the T-50, it should not be problems to allocate the “slanted” PAK-FA radar into the big flanker nose.

Anyway, Udaloy and Sovremenny use Shtil SAM systems. Not “weak” but short.

    On the Gorshkov class “frigates”

“This is, in fact, a large destroyer that is called a ‘frigate’ for political reasons,” Mikhail Barabanov, scientific editor of Arms Exports magazine, said.

The new Mk 22350 multi-role and long-range frigate will conduct anti-submarine warfare (ASW) operations, hitting other naval targets. It will take three or four years to complete one frigate, if this project gets regular appropriations.

“Most likely, this project will feature engineering solutions that were used to build Mk 11356 frigates for the Indian Navy,” Konstantin Makiyenko, deputy director of the Center for Analyzing Strategies and Technologies, said.

Hard to tell, this ship will replace the Udaloy and Sovremenny classes into one platform.

Whether a new nuclear or conventional cruiser will be developed remains to be seen. I would wage that both the Slavas and Kirovs have another 20 years left in them.

Weapons wise, this thing will dwarf any other destroyer out there.

Just like Yasen will be a hell of an attack sub.

A rather old article in this forum stated that Udaloy and Sovremenny will be replaced by Gorshkov class frigates and that these “frigates” in reality have the weight, size and punch of destroyers. This new project is over 9.000 tn and have a tremendous punch, so in spite of be classified as “destroyer”, can work as a cruiser.

In fact this has sense, because it greatly reduces the number of vessel classes. Steregushchy will replace Corvettes and Frigates. Gorskkov will replace destroyers and this new project will replace Cruisers.

I love big monsters like Kirov and Slava but, let be realistic, these are creatures from the past. In spite of this, they can have 2 decades more life if properly modernized, to buy time for new projects to come in substantive umbers.

So this B-2 analague (given Paralay’s pics) is going to be running CAS over Ossetia?

No. That mission is for the Su-34. Likely he refers to Tu-22M3 missions like deep strike on adversaries bases. I.e. striking Aviano or Chinese bases located in Inner Mongolia with stand-off weapons. Another example is the carpet bombing over Afghanistan during the late 80s.

JORN cant track in 4d for targeting, but it is very very sweet
isnt the metric an early warning, rather than a targeting radar ?

Yeap. Anyway, to tackle a B-2 in a hostile Russian air-space is no necessary data on a tracking quality level. Detecting the Spirit with a metric wave radar and sending a Foxhound/Flanker to the likelihood area to finish the job via the IRST is the way.

What is the situation now? Has anything changed so far??

The industrialized east-Ukrainian regions have been badly damaged during the last years by the Russian politics of no-dependence on abroad and the Orange politics. In the last case it may have been deliberated to damage the “unfriendly side” of the country. Nevertheless, although a shadow of its former strength, these industries may retain a considerable production capacity. The problem is that know how and innovation depended in a considerable degree on Russia during the Soviet years.
I don’t know the state of Ukrainian design and development offices but I am afraid they may not be healthy.
