Just watched it on iplayer, Ken is brilliant, shame there were 2 of my most hated “personalities” sharing the stage with him.
My thoughts entirely!
Thanks for your responses chaps.
Expressflight – The cabin baggage allowance on these flights seem very tight. How strict did they appear to be? Last year I flew Luton – Galway with them and I made sure our bags were well within the limits stated. However many other people had bags that were obviously way over the limit and they seemed to get away with it!
I too remember the halcyon days at Southend. Just add a few more personal memories….
The old flying club hangar when it was used as one
Bernard Collins flying around in his Aeronca G-AEFT
Laddie Marmol arriving in his EP9 G-AOFU on a regular basis
The arrival of the first Ambassador (BKS) and Britannia (Air Charter)
The arrival of the Queen’s flight Vikings for Tradair
The Queen Mother arriving in a Heron
Jindiviks being prepared for shipment to Australia in an Air Charter DC4
The regular visits of Fred Olsen and Transavia C46’s
The joyflight Autocar G-AMFP
To name just a few…..
Also during the early sixties the Southend – Ostend route was the busiest international air route in the world in terms of movements!
However one must not forget to Pou-de-Ciel (G-ADXS) hanging up in Storey’s garage.
Also the regular types that flew over such as the RCAF Freighters en route to Langar and USAF C124’s and C133’s en route to Mildenhall.
Indeed, those were the days!
Fabulous pictures!
I love the Auster – it looks as though it has just come off the Rearsby production line!
Question from Mrs 840 this morning, ‘what is a no fly zone?’
It is where flies are banned, which is not a bad thing in a hot country!
Spain, amongst many others, never seems to get involved!

An oldie, but a goody, worth re-airing in light of the circumstances-
😀
Mods, I am amazed that you haven’t deleted this link. There are many children that read these posts and they shouldn’t be subjected to this sort of language!![/B
You fight your war they’ll fight theirs.
Perhaps they could catch the next plane to Pakistan then! What are they doing here if they think that way?

Leaving aside the totally unsupportable method of their slaughter, which I do not condone for a second, what should they have done with 100 dogs for which there was no work and no need and presumably no means to feed and water them?
I think you missed the point, it was the method of slaughter that was used and not so much the fact they were slaughtered. As Lincoln.7 points out, we are talking about a civilised country!

PhantomII – does it make you want to duck every time you go into the room?
I agree, very impressive!
If Aer Arran are going to operate out of Southend to Waterford and Galway, I assume that they intend to pull those services out of Luton?
I think that the Captain would have been astute enough to recognise his condition and would have either reported him or not allowed him to sit in the right-hand seat!
