I remember visiting Panshangar in January, 1962 and there was a Viking there parked over the far side. I understand it was owned by TD Keegan.
That’s good news. I wonder if that means that Air Arann are going to ditch Luton!
Thanks for the update.
I would say there was no chance of a display by the F-15’s, it will be a result if they turn up.
There hasnt been a dedicated demo crew in the USAFE since 1991 although Lakenheaths jets have been used by the stateside demo pilots at RIAT and Legends in 07 when an E model flew as part of the Heritage Flight and did a solo routine as well.
Well they certainly turned up and passed over my house very low 4 times while awaiting their turn. A magnificent sight!
The windscreens on the Viking certainly use to leak and the pilots very often wore raincoats. I was not aware of the chewing gum idea although it wouldn’t surprise me!
Boiled sweets were standard issue in those days!
I flew to Jersey, via Guernsey, on the 31st August, 1958 in G-AIFO.
Perhaps you came back on its return journey. It was unusual to use the Wayfarers on that route as they were slow, noisy and uncomfortable.

Sorry mate, it is now a house. Still looks like a pub, but it’s been converted
Matt
Very sad to hear that!
I understand that it was Guy Gibson’s watering hole while he was stationed there in 1941!
For old times sake here is a facsimilie of the old pub sign…..
Does anyone know if “The Startled Saint” still exists at West Malling?
I believe at one time it was within the boundary of the airfield and the pub sign depicted St Leonard being buzzed by Spitfires!
Please don’t keep quoting the post directly above in its entirety. It is unnecessary – Mods
I will be there!
A friend of mine who saw the aircraft recently said he thought it needed a wash
….but it wasn’t the Wash, it was the North sea!
Amazing video clip – thank you for posting. It was indeed a lucky escape and was surprised how relaxed they appeared!
I have never seen the North Sea so calm – it was like a mill pond! Luck was surely with them on that day!
Very interesting photos. I’m off to Sydney in October on a Qantas A380 – I can’t wait!
John Prescott joining the Lords is as hypocritical as Diane Abbott’s son going to a private school! It seems to be a question of “do as I say, not do as I do”!
