Is this the one that use to be based at Southend and flown by Bernard Collins the Airport Commandant?

If so I might have a photo somewhere!

Channel Airways ran mainly British types, although some were second hand.
They did operate DC3s and a DC4, but other than that they were all British:
    Puss Moths
    Dragon Rapides
    Vikings
    Viscounts
    Bristol Freighters
    748
    111
    Tridents
    Comets

    I’m sure I’ve forgotten some…..

    And also………….

    Proctors
    Austers
    Tiger Moth
    Aerovan
    Doves
    Herons

Indeed G-APDB does look fantastic in her new BOAC colours and I think they are highly appropriate for all the reasons that Bruce has said, my only concern would be what kind of message are they sending out by doing this? Would an airline that was thinking of donating an airframe to a museum to preserve a little of it’s heritage now think twice on the grounds that once it has gone bust or been brought it’s wishes would be disregarded and thus make the whole operation pointless?

Yes, I agree. What next? The Monarch Britannia in BOAC coulours? The Herald in Jersey Airlines colours? Or how about the 1-11 in Court Line colours?

    Luke,
If you get a chance go to the PPRUNE website, there is a cabin crew forum which has some good hints and tips; my wife recently went to the Easyjet interview. Really think about your introduction…it is their first impression and usually the lasting impression of you.
    Good luck

    Si

Yes remember, you never get a second chance to create a first impression!

It’s a shame that their Austers were not painted in that colour!

The 4 Comets that they bought from Olympic were retained predominately in their Olympic colours, but you are correct with the Viscounts & Jets

As far a I recall, the original green colour scheme on the old piston fleet were copied from West African Airways following the purchase of the Bristol Freighters. The colour sceme then changed following the purchase of the DC4 which came with a flash on the fin. This flash was then applied to all the piston engined aircraft in the fleet.

Incidentally Channel went into liquidation in early 1972.

Why is it surprising that VLM is going to use a F50 on the route? What other type would an airline operating only F50s use?

I agree, the F50 is the obvious choice!!

Thanks for this chaps, I too had the pleasure of flying on her as well, most unusual having a Viscount doing pleasure flights. I seem to recollect that it was a classic airliner show however nothing much turned up apart from the 3 above aircraft if my memory serves me well.

I’m glad to say that I attended this years airshow at Lydd after a long absence of the airfield staging anything and it a was much better turn out of aircraft, abeit military.

The thing I liked most about the Viscount was that when it first arrived, it taxied in on all four engines which was a wonderful sight and sound. Viscounts traditionally shut two engines down the minute they leave the runway.

As regards classic airliners there was also the Air Atlantique Dragon Rapide and the South Coast Airways Dakota both in attendance. I can’t remember if there was a Dove there or not!
