I would just be happy to see the two Air Atlantique DC-6’s in close formation!
No, the place with the airship hangars is Cardington which is not an airfield.
RAE Bedford was based at Thurleigh which was north of Bedford.
Robert, I am not able to read it!
Thanks Pete, that has certainly wetted my appetite!
I hadn’t realised that it also included a flight in a DC3/Beech 18!!
That does sound good value for 2000 CAD which is what I understand it costs!
I have been thinking of doing this.
I know that it carries 4 passengers – can you tell me if all the passengers get a window seat?
Thank you for sharing them – there’s some good shots there
Very interesting pics of the Air Rhodesia Viscounts.
I remember the one being shot down and at the time very sad about the fact it was a British manufactured aircraft and in particular a Viscount!
Excellent shot. Any idea from which aircraft it was taken from?
Is the Mushroom pillbox still there? Also any idea what happened to the shelter on the other side of the railway line?
I spent many happy days perched on both of those plus the one on Warners Bridge at the end of 33/15!

Whilst cycling from Southend to West Malling for a USN air show in the early 60’s, I had just passed Leigh-on-Sea when suddenly a KB50 appeared on its way in to West Malling at a very low altitude. It was obviously on its way in from Sculthorpe but it certainly encouraged me to pedal hard as I was still 3 hours away from the airfield (via the Tilbury Ferry!).
All USAF/USN military air shows in those days included a KB50 as standard!
My wife got me the Air Atlantique Collection 1/400 Scale DC-6/L-188/DC-3
What else could a man want?
Seeing the Bristol Bulldog go over on its back when landing at the North Weald air show in the early 60’s!
Well just listen out….isn’t that the sound of RR Darts approahing…..?
I went from Scotland down to Lakenheath many moons ago to see a bunch of 105s come over for a deployment. Fantastic.
That must have been a sight worth seeing.
I remember seeing the first Phantoms to visit the UK which was at Bentwaters in the early 1960’s. There was both a USAF and a USN example – they were such an usual shape at the time which made them fascinating to watch. Mind you that was well before they became two a penny
