The Northrop A-9, lost to the A-10 in the CAS role.

Didn’t one version or something similiar of the Northrop A-9 wind up in service with the Fillipino Airforce?

YB-4O if my memory serves me, it was intended to be an escort platform. It carried 2 fifty’s in each of the waist positions, two top turrets, as well as the ususal, armament i.e. tail, belly, radio operator, and cheek blisters in the nose. But I understand from reading is that they were slower than the bombed up 17’s, and the program was scrapped.

They even tried it on a few B-24’s with the same results.

Any plans to convert her nose from the aero, to the proper one with the turret?

Not to keep bringing up an old thread, but while talking to my dad, he was stationed at Upper Heyford from 1975-1978. He told me while living in Bicester, that at one time it was a large dump for Luftwaffe wrecks. Base Commander expressed that no military was allowed to keep anything from the old scrapyard, however one of the locals that worked on base with my dad, had a piece of prop with a bullet hole in it.

Does anybody have any pics of any scrapyards near or in Bicester, post WWII? 😎

Around the house during various times of the day, I get to see the following a/c; FA-18D’s from VFR-201, FA-18’s from VMF-112, KC-130T’s from VMGR-234. F-16’s from 301st FW. ON occasion I do get to see B-52’s from Barksdale’s reserve sqaudron shooting touch and goes, at NAS FT. WORTH JRB. I also get to see the Navy version of the 737 from VR-59, as well as T-38 Combat Talon. Also when there is Hurricane coming in, I see a fleet of P-3”s and F-18’s come in as well.

Jule’s, Strategic Air Command was Jimmy Stewart’s film. I think you are thinking of Command Decision. Also what about Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket? Was’t it based on the batlle at Hue?

correct me if I am wrong, but didn’t a U.S.A.A.F pilot in a P-47N also make a claim that it broke the sound barrier in a power dive?
