Welcome Quinny to the forum, as I am new as well I am Doghouse Ldr. and are from the States if you have any questions for me regarding any airplane on my side of the pond just pm me. 🙂
If you want some P-40 action I suggest watching 1941. It had the best collection of comedy actors with John Belushi playing Capt. Wild Bill Kelso, trying to find the secret Jap airbase in the Pomona Alfalfa fields. 😎
That sad to hear, I really get excited when I hear someone is restoring a more exotic bomber, rather than a B-17, or a Lancaster, not putting down there war time attributes, but I look for more variety now these days. 🙁
the germans at there retreat with the high ranking one aying Dover?, Dover….., and at the beginning of the movie when Kurt Jurgens comes to see the British Ambassador and tells him that they should surrender or be crushed by Germany, and that England was theirs for the taking, the British Ambassador tells his wife that they are running on Liquid Courage.
How about a film in North Africa, say RAF and its Commonwealth Squadrons against the famed JG27, or a better remake of Command Decision, or 12 ‘O’ Clock High would be nice.
I think the real deal for me is this: the people who lived in England during the war want american and british warbirds over the English skies. Many young British, Commonwealth, and American flight crews gave up there lives in order the world could live free. To say that a P-51 is polluting the skies is rubbish, What would you rather have, an American fighter or bomber, or none at all. I wish the American people in general had as much passion for their avaition history as you all do. We can’t even get a sizable donation for our own avaition museum here, becuase no one cares about Consolitdated plants contribution to the war. So in essence the more the better! 😡
Is that color picture of the Russian twin engine a Petlaykov Pe-3?
Thanks stormbird262 very interesting info and greatly appreciated. I have not been MIA just enjoying the early autumn breeze in the lonestar state. Although No. 87 sqdn. was not as famous as some of the other sqdns., it looks to me as it played an important role during the early years of the war.
😎
Didn’t speed tv commentator Alan de Cadenet used to fly his own spit in for the festival?
Hi all, thanks for the pics. I’m just looking for some additional background, i.e. when did the units form, combat history, lineage of aircraft in the squadrons, combat record kills vs. losses, just a bit more to info., just in case someone at the contest ask me a question about the paint scheme and markings.
I don’t see the USAF going outside of the U.S. to buy tankers form Airbus.
Back when the original B-1A was still being developed, the air force toyed with the idea of stretching the F-111 to a crew of four, that plan fizzled. I believe that the air force needs to build a bomber in between the size of say the B-1 and the smaller F-111.
Several years ago they had this bomber it was the B-58 HUSTLER. It was fast, could out run most fighters of that era, could deliver a nuclear load, very sophisticated for its time, but it did have problems structural reliability, avionics were very shady.
But if I were going to build a bomber this is probably the criteria it needs., fast, stealth, carry multipule ordinance packages, and fairly easy to maintain.
Why not use the C-27 or the Osprey, the original concept of the gunship was to provide fire support to troops on the ground and have the capability to loiter in the combat area. Would a jet be less likely to be able to stay in the area for an extended period of time. What is your take on this.
Once again thanks guys you are all good chaps! 🙂
cool john, nice to know Ihave someone on this side of the atlantic that enjoys historical aircraft as much as me!
