At 45 thousand feet he says “the pressure outside is 20% less than on the ground, outside my blood would boil and I would die in seconds”

And yet the next feature was about Joseph Kittinger who free fell from 32km (so the program said) up lol someone sack the researcher.

It also said at the beginning “S. Africa is one of the few places where they are still flying”

Unless I missed something, isn’t it the only place they are still flying 😀

But despite all that it was an amazing peice of footage.

Well it sounds like (if look north and Calendar are to be believed) he’s taken what ever he owned and left all the bits that have been donated, sounds fishy to me. We drove past the day after they upped an left and I rememeber saying to my mum that it looked a bit deserted.

I really hope they can get a new land lord in and everything is still inside. They did a really nice burger there 🙁

Where would it go in Lincolnshire though?
    Conningsby perhaps?
    Waddington?
    East Kirkby?
A bigger one in the grounds of Lincoln Cathedral?
One of the many ex RAF bases?
    The possibilities are endless.

Coningsby could be a good place, it could go in the car park for the BBMF, at least it would get some protection lol 😀

Right now it’s a load of old piffle lol 😉 😀

She’s only going for maybe a day to sort out the compass, then she’ll be housed at Brunty.

Wish I’d been at coningsby a bit earlyer lol we were there about 2ish lol what a shame 😀 .

Hmmm i’m gonna have to start listening to radio Lincolnshire in future, see what they’re up too, I normaly have lincsFM on.

Yes it was partly that, however when I first went (took and elderly relative of mine) it wasn’t just fenced off, it was behind what I describe as a plethera of furniture and bit and bobs 😀

The Lincolnshire Echo had a field day with it lol Although it was only like that for a week or two.

Disagree Dean – as a national memorial it should be in the nation’s capitol where due homage can be paid rather where just the locals will see it and veterans might struggle to get to.

    Roger Smith.

    That’s a good point.
There is already the Lincoln Cathedral one as has been stated, and although at first it shared it’s position with a storage area *rolls eyes* it was clear when I went to see it it.

So those who make the journey up here get to see the cathedral as well as the memorial, plus many of the WWII air fields (at least the ones I know) have their own memorials, the East Kirkby, Fiskerton, Metheringham, Woodhall and Bardney ones are particulally nice.

Actually getting to the Waddington air show, two years ago I was in NYC and missed it, last year I had bad heat stroke and was too ill and this year the day we were going (Sunday) we got as far as the top of canwick road/hill when we heard it was cancled LOL so next year I’m keeping everything crossed that we have better luck 😀

558 is something I can’t wait to see again. I only have vaigue memories of her at a Scampton air show.

We drove past it on Saturday and I was happy to see it all nice and clean.

That does seem to be the area where the local youths hang around, especially at night, most don’t have any respect for things like that, it’s why I was never interested in hanging around with people my own age, they don’t want to hear about the history, they just like the trouble making.

I didn’t think the police hut was opposite;) 😀 , I thought that was an estate agents 😉 lol:D

As a side note, 617 were formed at scampton but were only there for 6 month I believe before spending 3 month at coningsby, then swaping with 619(???) squadron and staying at Woodhall for the rest of the war. As far as I know thats all correct but I’m sure someone will correct me and point and laugh 😀 😀
