I was on the Eastern end of the runway at the front, about 100 metres from the vehicle paddock. I was surprised by the Apache/Triplane pair parting company so quickly as well, i was lucky to get them both in frame when I did (though a 500mm lens helped see them at the far end of the runway first)!

Great stuff. I was particularly impressed with the long range shots of the Reds and with the F16 and flares.
    Which lens did you use?

I have put the rest up on Flickr, use the link to see the set, and if you click on the “HA-MKF” keyword you’ll see pictures from other shows where she’s performed.

It’s a Sigma telephoto zoom lens, 150-500mm. Commonly known as a ‘Bigma’ due to its size 😀

    Like this one

The Bigma is 50-500mm, the 150-500 is known as the Son of Bigma !

Got to agree about the A380, well caught or well planned its a brill action shot.

I specifically wanted to see the runway in my photos so I could see takeoffs/landings, so I trekked up a small hill where others had gathered and plonked my tripod in an appropriate spot

The A380 pic came out far better than I could have hoped for, I’m really pleased with it !

The video makes it look like a fantastic museum and I can see what they have in mind, but…

I assume the 80million will be spent on making the planes float in mid air without any support wires as in the video !

    Is there a roof?

It looks like one of the Didcot cooling towers distorted in a fire !

If this were in central London then yes it would be a great idea, but it looks ugly for Hendon and I bet (like all ‘landmark’ construction projects) it will not cost 80 million but probably double that (has there ever been a major project which has come in under budget and time?).

Nice ones. What’s the aircraft parked in the bottom RH corner of the final pic? Looks a bit like one of the very early Hawks, but can anyone confirm?

    Duxford Spring Airshow 2008

Some great shots there, particularly like the Tucano.

Had a great time yesterday, I’m glad airshow season has finally arrived !

I flew in from Blackbushe (G-BPTE…anyone get any pix?) so missed the M11 rush, and also the convoy of planes taxiing for departure (quite weird having the south side to myself at a Duxford event!). The vis was quite good though a bit bumpy on the way there.

Below are some of my fav pix so far, I took around 1,800 so it will take me a while to go through and weed out the ones I don’t need (burst mode has its drawbacks!).

This was the first time I used the Bigma (Sigma 50-500) and my 40d at an airshow and experimented with different settings to see what worked best.

    Flying Schools

Which Flight School you went to?
    Blackbushe Aviation (RedAir)

What are your experiance with them?
Very good organisation, fun instructors who know their stuff.

What was your time span with them(How long it took you for graduation)?
Took about a year and a half to get my NPPL back in June 2006.

Did you get regular flying Weather conditions
I suppose 75 per cent of lessons went ahead, the others cancelled due to Wx, tech, etc.

    Instructors
I had a regular instructor, then had around 3 different ones for mock tests towards the end.

    Planes condition
I flew a PA38 Tomahawk which got broken (prop strike on landing) halfway through training (not by me), so they got another PA38 from Redhill. I now fly PA28 Archers which are a little more comples but more fun, and take more pax !

…and anything you would like to add
Learning to fly was an incredible challenge for me, but gaining my licence was the best day of my life. Its an incredible feeling to get in a plane and fly away.

Nice set of shots there 😎 Just wondering can you land at Dunsfold any time during the day or only for airshows?

    James

You can only land there if you have business at the business park, so its not like some other airports where you can just pop in for a cup of tea without even ringing first for permission.

For the airshow I e-mailed the address on their website asking for a slot. They normally only allow old or interesting aircraft a slot, so i was very fortunate to be allowed to go there…makes for an interesting entry in my logbook !
