    Well I don’t think that Thales US provides anything critical. They most probably supply some of the hardware (what ever) and that’s it. That doesn’t mean they have a clue about the systems capabilities. And if everything is not French made why is it Thales France which makes all the announcements?

    The Swedes have nothing to do with the RBE2 at all, swiss companies get involved now and that’s it. Most likely some kind of offset to increase the chances in Switzerland.

    Oh please. None of that reveals any details about anything specific in terms of avionics. It’s all educated guesswork, at best. Certainly superior to the not-so-educated guesswork posted here, though, I’ll give you that!

    Well there are at least some figures out there about both radars:
    N001V/N-011M:
    detection range against fighter: 130-140 km/160+ km
    tracking: 10/15
    Engagement: 1-2/4
    Azimuth coverage: +/-60°/+/-70+°
    Elevation coverage: +/-55° both
    NCTR: No/Yes

    That’s certainly just a fraction of everything relevant, but anyway one don’t need to be an expert to know that an upgraded variant of a 1980s radar with inferior technology base is unlikely to match a 1990s radr from the same manufacturer with more advanced technologies.

    The Saudis were interest in early deliveries and to satisfy the customers demands the UK has diverted those aircraft. It’s more a political/industrial move, rather than a desire of the RAF.

    No these aircraft aren’t used, they were diverted from RAF T2 production slots. In other words these aircraft are directly delivered to the RSAF instead of RAF.

    @Madrat,
    I have to admit that I’m not overly well informed about the political/economical situation in Romania. So if they can’t even pay for planned F-16s, they may end up with nothing. Though I thought that the aircraft would be provided for free.

    Oh really? :rolleyes: I can’t wait for your source.

    And that’s just radar. You are missing the rest of well – everything! 😎

    Plenty of sources I have witnessed over the course of the last 15 years about the Flanker family, to many to name or remember them all, but they include books from Yefim Gordon such as “Flanker – The Next Generation”, articles from Piotr Butowski a well respected journalist and writter on the topic among others. These basic data are public knowledge and easily accessable, if you would be interested in the matter, rather than flaming you would do some research yourself and know about it.

    And if you are half as smart as you present yourself to be you could counter all the other’s “lies”, you obviously can’t.

    @Clampipe,
    you should restrain yourself a bit and not calling anyone clown. What do you expect if you hear things like “The MiG 1.44 will be as stealthy as the F-22”, “The Su-34 is invulnerable to missiles” and “The Su-35 defeats any missile within 6 seconds” from Russian “top brass” officials. Western ones may exaggerate with claims like “the only” and “unique” etc., but they at least stay within certain borders.
    So what about you explaining us why the Su-27SM should be so much better than any export variant? And as Haavarla pointed out Russia exported Flanker models far superior at a time when the Su-27SM was not even delivered. The known specifications of the N-011M clearly exceed those of the N-001V to mentioned just an example, longer range, better coverage, electronic scanning, superior multi target tracking and engagement, more modes…

    If a completely new technology with phased array means nothing compared to mechanical scan, then why all that fuzz regarding AESA?

    Because it’s made in the US 😉

    Is there any source which suggests that ASRAAM and AGM-84E are integrated into the UAE F-16 blk 60, never heared of it before.
    —————————————————————————-

    With regards to the Su-27SM it reportedly features a new digital FBW, stronger AL-31F-M1 engines, new glass cockpit, WCS, integrated avionics via databus, new computers, LINS/GPS navigation systems, new L150 Pastel RWR, N-001V radar, new OLS (comparable to the export variants or better) and new weapons. It is based on the Su-30MKK/MK2 and will be more or less equally capable. I nonetheless don’t think it will match the more advanced Su-30MKI/MKA/MKM variants.

    Well the RAF formally took delivery of its first Typhoon T.1 (BT001) on 30th Jun 2003 at BAE Systems Warton facility. The aircraft was used for ground personal training however. Flight operations began in November 2003 and the No.17R sqn stood up at Warton on 17th December 2003, starting flight operations the following day.
    The RAF formally declared the RTS on 13th May 2004. The No.29R sqn stood up at Warton on 19th May 2004, starting flight operations the following day. On 1st April 2005 the Case Programme was concluded 2 month ahead of schedule and the No.17R sqn started to move to Conningsby where it was reformed on 19th May 2005. The No.29R sqn followed from 1st July 2005 and was inaugurated on 4th November 2005. The No.3F sqn became the first front line unit and stood up on 31st March 2006. The No.11F sqn followed suit on 29th March 2007. The RAF delcared the Typhoon operational on 29th June 2007 and achieved FOC status on 1st April 2008 and met its OED MR on 7th July 2008.

    Germany
    The first aircraft arrived at the TSLw 1 at Kaufbeuren on 17th February 2003, where ground personal training is conducted, but the aircraft was still owned by the manufacturer at that time. GT003 was the first aircraft to be formally handed over to the Luftwaffe on 4th August 2003 at Manching, where the SIPT programme was launched on 4th September 2003 to train an initial cadre of service instructor pilots. Jagdgeschwader 73 “Steinhoff” was the first unit with which the Eurofighter entered service on 30th April 2004, the 2. sqn to be exactly. The 1. sqn was temporarily deactivated following the MiG-29’s withdrawal from service on 4th August 2004. The Eurofighter entered service with the 1. sqn of JG 74 at Neuburg on 25th July 2006. In January 2008 JG 74 Eurofighters did their work up in the QRA role and were subsequently flying QRA sharing that task with the remaining F-4F. On 3rd June 2008 the Eurofighter was declared operational in the QRA role with JG 74. On 16th December 2009 the Eurofighter formally entered service with the Jagdbombergeschwader 31 “Boelcke” at Nörvenich AB.

    Italy
    In October 2003 Finemeccanica started training of first AMI pilots and technicans at its Caselle facility. The first aircraft was formally handed over on 19th February 2004 and was moved to Cameri AB where ground personal is trained. On 23rd March 2004 the Eurofighter formally entered service with the 9° Gruppo of 4°Stormo at Grossetto. The wing’s 20° followed after the last F-104 were retired on 31st October 2004. Two aircraft were provided to stand QRA readiness as part of the national air defence system from 16th December 2005. On 1st January 2007 IOC state was achieved and the 4° Stormo now shared the NATO QRA commitment. On 1st October 2007 the 12° Gruppo of 36° Stormo at Gioia Del Colle stood up as the AMI’s 2nd Typhoon wing. The 36° Stormo achieved QRA readiness on 5th January 2009. 4° Stormo achieved FOC state in July 2009, following a NATO Eval. On 14th July 2010 the 10° Gruppo was assigned to 36° Stormo, as the wing’s second squadron.

    Spain
    The EdA accepted its first CE.16 on 5th September 2003 and the Spanish SIPT programme was launched at Getafe the same month. The Moron based Ala 11 was officially declared to become the services first Typhoon unit on 11th October 2003 and the first aircraft was formally handed over to the Ala 11 CO on 16th October 2003. Ala 11’s Escuadron 113 formally stood up on 23rd December 2003, but the Eurofighter did not enter service with the unit before 27th May 2004. Escuadron 111 supposedly stood up in May 2006. On 17th July 2008 the EdA was the last to declare QRA readiness with its Typhoons. 112 Escuadron appears to have been formed by now, but the date is unknown.

    Hope that helps
    cheers

    Thanks Scorpion, as always.

    Which estimate do you go by? Personally, am rather surprised by the 75nm range figure for the RBE-2 vs 3 Sq Mtr, and 130 Km sounds more reasonable?

    Hi Teer,
    it’s difficult, I think that the RDY range figure was against a 5 sqm target and if the RBE2 offers similar range it should be for a 5 sqm target. Anyway it’s difficult with so much different information and my mind may sometimes fool me as well.

    Well Italy started to stand up QRA for the national air defence on 16.th December 2005 and declared IOC on 1st January 2007. From then on NATO QRA was provided.

    The RAF declared the Typhoon operational on 29th June 2007, starting with QRA duties on a rotational base. The RAF was actually the first to achieve FOC state on 1st April 2008 in the AA role and met its operational employment date for multirole on 7th July 2008.

    @Teer,
    earlier sources sited a 100 km detection range against a 3 m² target for the RBE2. Latter sources insisted ~130 km range or equal to RDY. It was initially said 40% greater than RBE2 for the new RBE2 AA which would be around 180 km, though I’m not sure whether this applies to a 3 m² or 5 m² target.

    @JJ,
    you were quoting a French source claiming that increasing the frequency range would require a new radome. What does it tell us about the current frequency range and also in comparison to that of the APG-79? NOTHING, you yet claim it’s inferior.
    Any recent source confirming that jamming functions are available for the -79?

    And what is said wrt to “modes on hold” as you allege? The truth is you declare things to be fact you know jack about, what a coincidence.
