First RSAF Typhoon handed over
It is said that the first 2 Typhoons have been handed over to the RSAF yesterday on 11th June 2009. I hope to be able to provide links in the near future.
I have to disagree here. Raptor unit cost is about $150 million and that includes every capability in the current block of AC. That includes AESA it includes the Avionics, it includes the current software code it includes AIM-120, AIM-9X, and SDB integration. While it does not include all future planned upgrades such as HOBs it does include things that Tiffie lacks. further if Raptor where built in numbers like Tiffy there should be no doubt that the price would come down even more. Only an idiot could not grasp the simple fact that having multiple assembly lines like Tiffy makes for a very expensive plane.
Development costs are not covered by your 150 mln figure and, neither is support equipment. So your comparion lacks.
No doubt upgrading Typhoon to enable it to be competent against today’s threats has added significantly to the cost. the reality is that it costs somewhere around $140 million dollars to produce a truly combat worthy Tiffy. All those contract numbers that where trotted out about by the tiffy cheerleaders as proof that it is an $80 million dollar plane do not take into account thinks like DAS, AESA, A2G development, IRST, Meteor integration, etc. In other words for$80 million you get an airshow aircraft not much more.

Exactly, I heard 500, 750, 850, 1000, etc. etc. Which, is why I said I needed an official source or at very least a reliable one. Before I would concede that it in fact had “1000”. Sorry, I can’t see why “some” consider that so unreasonable????
Really, at this stage all we know for sure is the Gripen NG AESA Radar. Will have the frontend of a Selex (Model unkown?) and the Rearend of the SAAB’s PS-05/A…………….

Personally, I will have “no problem” conceding that it has “1000 T/R Modules” when the information becomes public. Yet, I am not going to accept every opinion until such time it is supported by fact…………..
You obviously have a problem. Countless sources has been provided stating that an AESA aboard the Gripen would have 1000 TRMs, that the Vixen XXX stands for the number of modules has been stated as well. Despite all this you still wait for another source? Sorry but that’s ridiculous!

There is 1 aircraft scrap out of 3. The other airframe is just for fatigue testing. So To my math it’s 33.333…% 😉
3 aircraft were planned for flight testing and another airframe for fatigue testing. One aircraft has recently crashed and I doubt they have pulled out another airframe out of their a**es. The image of the 904 in that hall was in fact the 3rd flying prototype.

Well the current resolution is certainly not sufficient to allow “indentification”. Tracking yes but indentification no. The AESA technology should offer submetric SAR resolution and thus allow “indentification” of mooving targets like the F35 will with automatic detections and classification boosting the situation awarness.
It says “indication” which refers to being able to detect and track or at least display moving targets. And it doesn’t need AESA to achieve submetric resolution either.
