The other problem is that we see pictures of the EF with Storm Shadow and Taurus since 2003. We also had advertising in newspapers for awhile, and a nice Science Fiction video of EF making cruise missile missions and then escaping away from ground missiles thanks to its rocket power…
Since then it still hasn’t flown. I wonder what went wrong.
I suspect a range issue but I wonder also if there is not a FBW control issue (the fight control laws aren’t the same before and after the weapon is released and it’s not a benin problem as some want us to believe)The problem is that everything is always simple on brochures with the EF but we never see anything.
Like for the AESA. It’s considered as a done task because many brochures has been printed but it remain to be funded and programed in a actual tranche.
As if Dassault and co haven’t advertised various weapons and load outs long before they became an operational reality. And if you have missed the HMD it’s here and there still mentioned, for example in one of those Thales marketing videos. And the RBE2AA is operational? No it isn’t! Certainly closer to enter service than a Captor-E, but it is mentioned since quite some time now in Dassault’s marketing material, when it is in fact not in service. So 0 points for you. :p
One example of the application of mmw radars is Typhoon’s MAWS, another one the seeker of the Brimstone.
The French lost no Rafales either, just a secret aircraft type called Rafael!:D;)
unexpected surprise…
Rafale International has just release TWO new issues of the FoxThree magazine! I haven’t read them yet. Hopefully some interesting stuff is included.:)

@Mildave
T1 Typhoons aren’t necessarily stuck with AA only. Integration of AG weapons is possible, only weapons like Taurus etc are to heavy. The same is true for JAS 39A/B which had a weaker airframe, no refueling probe, lower MTOW and payload capacity etc. The initial F/A-18E/F didn’t feature a strong enough nose structure to accomodate an AESA radar either…
There will be different standards of Typhoons. Block 5/T1, block 10+/T2 and block X/T3. It’s certainly not possible to fully upgrade T1 Typhoons to higher standards hardware wise, except you accept expensive rebuilds of the structure (primarily wings and nose structure). Avionics can be upgraded as has been done with IPA2/4/6 and T2s aren’t too dissimilar to T3 examples wrt airframe. There are differences such as the plums for CFTs and the fuel dump, dunno how much it would take to add those to the T2s, but other than that it should be possible to sustain a relative homogeneous fleet of T2 & T3 at least. T1s will likely be employed for QRA taskings and training in the first place, though it would be possible to employ them for AG missions to a more limited extend (no heavy weapons like Taurus or Storm Shadow, but lighter weapons such as PW IV, Brimstone etc.). The UK may retire their T1s (that’s the current position), but not all will do that. The other partners have no intention to offload their T1s and all previous attempts were linked to the purchase of T3B as a replacement for possible sales of used T1s. With T3B more than unlikely to materialise for the core nations we’ll probably not see most of the T1s being dumbed either. Maybe even the UK will rethink its position, there is still some time left and they aren’t in hurry!
As Sintra stated operating different “standards” of aircraft types isn’t that unusual at all. Look at the various different block standards of F-16s the USAF and even some other customers operate, the different F-15s (Israel uses all variants f.e.) etc. Even smaller countries do things like this, including France f.e. which operates Mirage 2000C, RDI and -5F! It’s apparently not that “special”, nor is it a first. However it’s interesting to see how some people can spin things in the one or other way.
@Sintra
There are just 5 operators of T1s not 6. 😉
More info on the Marte ER itself can be found here:

Doesn’t sound to bad if you ask me and the weapon appears to be relative compact. IMO a very good option to consider for the Typhoon as the weapon should fit on the inner and outer centre wing pylons which would allow for the carriage of 4 x Marte ER+3 x DTs+6 AAMs. Not to shabby!
Funny how a likely cut from 620 to 472 becomes a “cut by half”. Some people should visit school again!
I think that some Rafale B were flown by a single pilot only. I think we can all agree on the fact that is pour marketing crap.
Exactly the other way round for me.:D
Would be interesting to learn more about the RAF “weapon mods” for the Libyan campaign. New radios aren’t really surprising me, new radios were planned anyway, maybe they have just accelerated them for this commitment!? That the Oman may get T2 examples is interesting, but we’ll hopefully smarter soon. That SA may buy additional Typhoons has been around for some time, we’ll see, if and when a deal may materialise.
What does daN.h mean?
Deka Newton per hour.
No aircraft is actually tested with all kind of weapons before it enters production and there are certainly a lot of stores/weapons being added over time as well. By that logic no one could guarantee the “life time” of such an aircraft. It’s not “Typhoon only”.
Wrt the weapons package this is negotiated separately. The Indians dictate what weapons they want not the French, British or Germans. If the IAF says hey we want the HARM on the Rafale or Typhoon then either manufacturer must integrate it.
I think IAF will go for ASRAAM as they have chosen it for the Jaguar DARIN III I think. Then again if the Americans are integrating and offering this free of cost, and if the AMRAAM is (probably will be) significantly cheaper than the Meteor, then sadly I can see the Raytheon package being accepted.
Or the IAF is just buying some of these weapons or buying AMRAAM and Meteor for example. Who knows I think we have to wait and see.
So no Meteor?
Also, latest and best AMRAAM tested in Libya? What?
These are just weapons from the US manufacturer Raytheon. Any purchases like ASRAAM, IRIS-T, Meteor, Storm Shadow or KEPD-350 Taurus would be negotiated with MBDA not with Raytheon or any other manufacturer. So this is just telling us the weapons the US manufacturer is going to offer for the MMRCA and I think it’s just a list of possible weapon options. I don’t think that the IAF would buy the AIM-9X for example when they can have similar weapons from another manufacturer which are already integrated on the platform.
