    @Mildave,
    I don’t think you understand the problem here. If the production process is interrupted it may become very expensive to relaunch it. If Dassault would have no orders in the meantime they have to preserve the tooling etc. and that alone is expensive, add to that the workers on the production lines must be moved to other fields of work and may loose proficiency, some might even be fired. If production is to be relaunched it is possible that Dassault would be forced to hire and train new workers adding further delays and costs. No company is keen to interrupt production for whatever reason and relaunch production is very costly and possibly not worth the effort. Dassault hasn’t made much money with the Rafale so far, having paid 1/4 or so of the development costs itself. It was meant that export sales would compensate for the investment, but thus far the French failed to secure any orders. If they’ll find a customer they might overcome that problem, otherwise the only option would be to place additional orders and/or stretch production of the F4 examples.

    Doesn’t matter whether dude or sweetie, the point is that your former thread was merged by the mods as it is redundant. Albeit I understand your post more as some kind of joke than anything else.

    @Flyboy77,
    what exactly is more stealthy about the newer fins in comparison to the old ones? The size in fact is more counter productive for the RCS. There is no alignment of the fins with any other surfaces, they aren’t any more canted than the older ones either. It most likely serves aerodynamic purposes only.

    Dude there is a reason why your former thread was actually removed, it was in fact merged with the existing thread!

    I think the too, maybe I expressed myself somewhat unluckily. Remains yet to be seen whether the MiG-35 will ever be fully developed at all, with no customers inside. I think that the possibly RuAF order was made dependent on the outcome of the MMRCA competition.

    First load tests on a T1 were conducted in October 2003. The Meteor training rounds (representative in size & weight) were loaded to the semi recessed weldings on the fuselage. First captive flight trials were conducted with a Typhoon F.2 from the 17(R) sqn in December 2005. Additional flight trials were conducted with IPA2 in Italy and IPA4 in Spain. These tests included high speed trials with Meteor captive rounds being carried on the wing stations and fuselage stations. The latter trials with the IPAs were conducted in support for the general development of the missile itself, but Eurofighter likely gained all the necessary data for vibration and flutter on the various stations throughout the flight envelope. Full integration would now require separation tests, which should be unproblematic and integration with the aircraft’s mission systems which is a more demanding task.

    Let’s hope they find a solution, otherwise it would be very expensive, possibly more expensive than ordering additional aircraft!

    Yes. They have unified all six new-built versions under one roof. That means MiG-29K/KUB, MiG-29M1/M2 and MiG-35/35D.

    From now on there is only MiG-29KUB airframe. Even single-seat versions use this airframe, with rear seat deleted.

    That’s not entirely correct. The decision to design a unified family of land based and carrier based single and twin seaters was made back in 2002, long before the MiG-35 existed. The MiG-35 is merely a MiG-29M with different sensors adapted to the requirements of the IAF’s MMRCA tender. The detail changes as presented on models as shown above were made afterwards. The fins and additional hardpoints are the main difference. Thus far no representative prototype has been built and it was easier and more importantly cheaper to just use the not to dissimilar MiG-29K/KUB prototypes as demonstrators for the -35. It might or might not be that a definitive version of the MiG-35 would in fact feature the enlarged fins, though I think it isn’t worth the effort and that they may settle with the current configuration.

    http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/russia/lukhovitsy.htm

    The MMRCA is lost for the Russians, but there are still over a thousand MiG-29s around. The money spent for the MMRCA the Russians will not miss the option to have something smaller and cheaper compared to the Sukhois. It was in the competition against the best of the West available. 😉

    What else could the Russians have offered for the Medium MRCA? Hardly a Flanker, which is already used anyway. That this aircraft was offered among the “best of the west” doesn’t prove anything. It’s true that there are a lot of older MiG-29’s in service around the world, but how many nations are likely to opt for a newer variant to replace them? How far developed is the MiG-35?

    ^^^^^ The people had nothing to do with it, mate!
    Them bloody i.io.s at govt, though…
    The sales were as you guessed taken into account
    in setting production line output rates!
    So that extra money had to be injected to keep the
    promise made to Dassault not to drop below 11 planes
    out of normal 33-36 yearly. Just tells you how old the
    problem is that Dassault got that guaranteed way back!
    Our guys flying are happy however, getting a small dozen
    instead of a few per year!

    The question for me is how Dassault/the French government will deal with the situation? Is there any acknowledged plan B?

    What seriously makes me wonder is will Dassault face a years long production gap? The last batch 4 example is due for delivery in 2015 if I recall correctly and with batch 5 examples not arriving before 2018 what is being done? Will Dassault slow down batch 4 production to cover the time frame? Are they already calculating with possible export sales (which would be foolish IMO)? Or did the people get something wrong?

    In my opinion the Euro should have never been introduced at all and it will f*ck up many European economies. Greece isn’t the only country, the next on the list are Italy, Spain and Portugal, all countries with an entirely different way to deal with money. They all like to spent much more than they have, live from loans and someday they discover that they have debts they can’t pay and call for the others to help them out. In the end the folks of the other countries have to suffer from the abuse of the “pigs” as you call them and will ultimately end up in the same situation as no one can afford to pay more than half the damn EU bills. The entire concept of the EU and the Euro is destined to fail sooner or latter, Europe isn’t the US with a number of refugees founding a nation, it’s a number of nations each with its own long history, it’s impossible to merge all this and before we’ll see a success we are more likely to see the fall.

    There was no new production line. The former production line at Nishni Nowgorod
    was scaled down and modernised for a limited production run only. The first series examples were built for the Indian navy. 16 ordered in 2004 for delivery from 2009-2012. In 2010 an option for a second batch was taken. The Russian Navy ordered 24 in 2011 after a first example in 2010. So it is intresting to learn when the production of the first Syrian examples started.
    A possible win of the Indian MRCA contest will add just a few examples in some years, when most examples will be assembled in India. Maybe Corran has better data about that. Sofar none Syrian M1/M2 is reported. Not even a series example in predelivery markings.

    It has been reported back than that a modernised production line for the new generation of MiG-29’s has been set up at Lukhovitzy, whether it is completely new or not is yet another question. The upgrades to the MiG-29SMT were performed at Nizhnyi Novogorod. Thus there are to locations where original MiG-29s have already been built.

    Btw the MMRCA is already lost for the Russians, so it doesn’t need to be considered anymore. Dunno about Syria, thus far there are only rumours but no facts at all. Fact is if there would be MiG-29M1/M2 for Syria they would be new built and not converted from something else.

    To cut a long story short, albeit offtopic, with all the faked statistics and living way beyond what is affordable Greece should have never been allowed to gain the Euro at all and they should just be dropped. Btw it’s more the French banks which were/are worried about Greece, unfortunately Merkel is a weak character and Sarkozy got his will.
