    @Sancho,
    the 1 CRM+2 ETs won’t work either as the size of stores on the centreline is restricted by the MLG positions, that’s also the reason why the Typhoon can’t carry larger stores on the inner wing stations. There was a graphic in a document showing two Taurus being attached on the Typhoons fuselage, but not exactly the centreline station. This might be another solution, but I don’t know whether it is really feasible.

    @swerve,
    the GBU-24 is integrated on the Rafale and images can be found on the net for that. I think the weapon was cleared somewhere around 2009/2010.

    One of the greatest issues wrt heavy/large weapons on the Typhoon is that they occupy the wings wet stations. This limits the useful combat radius in such configurations and may not make it worthwhile. It’s even more problematic if a TGP is to be used which will occupy the centreline station meaning the Typhoon could carry no drop tanks at all. CFTs could address that issue, but that option exists for other fighters as well.

    @EE Lightning
    The odds for a navalised Typhoon are bad. I’m not sure whether the QE class carriers feature a ski ramp, but they are to be fitted with a CATOBAR system. The current proposal of a STOBAR Typhoon may not a feasible option for the RN. The possible production run is rather small and probably not worth the effort. The IN will operate only two comparably small STOBAR carriers and has 45 MiG-29K/KUB and 46 N-LCA on order. I see no merit for adopting a third type and the UAC 2 will be CATOBAR ruling out a STOBAR optimised naval Typhoon.

    Wrt Japan I wouldn’t be to excited either. The Japanese claimed that they consider the Eurofighter as a serious alternative to the F-22 if congress wouldn’t approve it for export. That’s the case, but instead of starting negotiations with Eurofighter for example they are now negotiating with LM indicating a potential sale of F-35s. I subsequently doubt that the Typhoon has much of a chance in Japan, despite previous indications of a different behaviour. Eurofighter made the Japanese an offer for local production and comprehensive ToT allowing them to customize the Typhoon to their needs, similar as they have done it with the F-16 before (F-2).

    @Spitfire9
    I think that the “French demanded a navalized aircraft” is a mere. If you look at the time lines and info you’ll realize that the French did not decide on a naval variant of the Rafale before 1986, meaning at a time they had left the Eurofighter programme. Even the initial numbers (250) correspond with the AdA requirement only!

    Don’t know whether it was aready covered or not…

    …Russia has offered to equip the Indian Su-30MKI aircraft with the electronically scanned array radar to bring them on par with the most modern fighter aircraft in the world. Currently the technical configuration of the upgraded aircraft with onboard AESA radar is being discussed by Russian and Indian experts…

    @ivanotter,
    I don’t think that this proposal is really competing for the RN’s carrier requirement. It’s more an offer to the Indians, but I don’t think that a navalised Typhoon has much chances at all, so it will most likely end up like all the previous proposals. The idea of a naval Typhoon is actually not new. There were for proposals back in the 90s and additional concept studies a few years back. This is now the latest approach and the first one for STOBAR IIRC. The other proposals were for CATOBAR.

    @mrmalaya,
    good questions. Your guesses sound reasonable, but I don’t know.

    More navale Typhoon details

    Eurofighter has just released a pdf with additional information about the naval Typhoon proposal.
    http://www.eurofighter.com/fileadmin/web_data/Content_Images/news_pics/Naval_Typhoon_cutaway.pdf

    Interesting are the new dimensions.

    Original/Naval:
    * Overall length 15.96m (52ft 4in)/15.98 m (52ft 5in)
    * Overall height 5.28m (17 ft 4 in)/5.46 m (17ft 9in)
    * Wing area 50.0sq m (538sq ft)/51.2sq m (551sq ft)

    I’ve actually compensated for calculation errors (the documents claimed height is 5.9 m and length 15.97 m). Translating from the ft/in into those values unveils a significant error (~45 cm!) wrt height and a minor one (1cm) wrt length.

    @ H K shouldn’t there be around 100 Rafales in service right now?

    What about Germany, Italy and spain ?

    Though not belonging to the original topic the other partner nations employ the aircraft in the AA role only. The Luftwaffe’s JaboG 31 is conducting OpEval in the AG role right now, dunno about the EdA’s Ala 11. The AMI doesn’t intend to use the Typhoon for AG at all.

    Could someone clairfy exactly how the IAF inventory is going to evolve with the induction of LCA/2, MMRCA, AMCA, FGFA over the next decade?

    Cheers.

    I would think:
    Su-30MKI -> FGFA
    Mirage 2000 -> MMRCA/AMCA
    Mig-29 -> MMRCA/AMCA
    Mig-27 -> MMRCA/AMCA
    Jaguar -> MMRCA/AMCA
    Mig-21 -> LCA/MMRCA

    Good shots. I particularly like the one of the Mirage 2000s, though the one of the Tejas looks great as well.

    Look, I agree with you on Bluewings´ inanely partisan posts.
    But your comment above just doesn´t hold up. All reports say UAE wants 9t engine for aerodynamic performance reasons – enabling higher cruise speeds under normal load, but in their case more specifically, carrying more payload, e..g more Black Shaheens. Yes, if they didn´t ALSO plan to increase electrical generation, they could get MORE thrust out of the engine, but it is not an exclusive one or the other proposition, they can get both. Likewise, I don´t see any reason why a bigger electrical generator can´t be fitted to M88-EPE engines, they might just draw off more thrust if used fully used (but that can be tuned down if desired while maintaining commonality with new generator).

    Oops I have quoted BW’s post and somehow missed to delete that passage I quoted from BW while wrapping some of his claims into separate quotes. 😮

    It’s actually BW who said this;)

    Seriously , if both are doing the same shopping for the best stuff , the Thalès people would come up with the better end product . I am sure .
    Their ideas and ways to do things are a lot more inventive than Selex even if they look strange at the first glance . I believe that there is is simply more brain power within Thalès staff .

    Of course you think that Thales stuff is the best, what a surprise:rolleyes:
    The truth is that no one can tell you until the necessary details are known.

    These aircraft with their respective radars will not detect the Rafale at this range .

    Cheers .

    While it may not be likely it certainly depends on aspect angle and payload of the Rafale and the true range performance of these aircraft’s respective range performance and there can be no doubt that the Irbis or AN/APG-63(V3) or -82(V1) are significantly more powerful!

    yep, here eurofighter partners are putting £350m over 6 years to dev Captor and “pretorian” this name is funny,

    Oh dear, that’s a support service contract. That means in service support for the years to come! That has nothing to do with development of the systems, but in service support of fielded systems!:rolleyes:
