Hallo, true, but in 2008 one of the two Rafale twin seaters that the Swiss evaluated had an AESA in the nose, and while SAAB sent a pair of Gripen D´s, they were proposing to deliver an “all dancing, all singing” Gripen E´s. Eurofighter was proposing to deliver in 2015… P1E…

The Rafale versions offered to Switzerland had the PESA radar. It’s characteristics are highlighted in the Swiss evaluation. The second analysis of that report, which focus on variants to be delivered in 2015, state that the Rafale version would be F3+, which does have an AESA radar.

The S-111 data link for PAK FA has been tested (completely I assume):

Christer Bergström states in his book on the Battle of Britain that the Bf 110 was much more successful than stated in many books. The main reason for being retired was that it was needed to equip night fighter units, but it did score better than Bf 109 units. The issue is that very often, authors focus on the unsuccessful missions carried out with long range tanks that limited it’s performance. When operating high and fast it was a dangerous enemy.

Some numbers provided in another discussion. The source is his book in Swedish, ”Luftstrid över kanalen”

Confirmed victories versus actual air battle losses, from July to October 1940

    Bf 109 780 victories to 534 losses – a ratio of 1.5:1
    Bf 110 340 victories to 196 losses – a ratio of 1.7:1

FYI, I track the deliveries here:
    http://rafalenews.blogspot.com/p/ord…eliveries.html

In your chart it states that total Rafale deliveries in 2017 were 6, 1 for France and 5 for Egypt. However, data published by Dassault state 9, 1 for France and 8 for Egypt. Maybe there is a typo?

The draft defense budget shows 28 more Rafale to be procured between 2019-2025, 55 Mirage 2000D to be upgraded.

Yes, but final number is still 225 between Air Force and Navy. I don’t see how it is an increase in the final figure. Yes, FAF will have more aircraft as upgraded Mirage 2000 will be available but not due to these Rafales.

The Gripen-NG should have lower operating cost than Gripen-C, according to SAAB, BTW.. F414 engine with higher MTBO, AESA radar with high MTBF, etc.

This makes sense, especially for the radar. Do you have the Saab link for it? I have tried to find information on F414 (sfc) but there are not details on the net.

    More news on Croatian F-16s

    https://www.timesofisrael.com/israel…es-to-croatia/

30 F-16s for 500 million usd? That is quite a jump from the current 12 MiG-21 they are using. Makes the Romanian deal looks expensive.

I thought the same, but then maybe some are used for spares.

and the automatic ground collision avoidance system.

I thought it already had this system for nuclear delivery. Can anyone clarify?

One advantage was that Il-76 could operate from more airfields than Soviet airliners.

Do you have a source ? I never heard about it from the IAF, only for dogfighting. Mirage 2000 + RDI and SUPER 530D were a superior combo in 1989.

It was mentioned here and at ACIG. Marcos Viniegra/Pit provided more details. In any case, Indian Mirage 2000 use RDM, which is a simple upgrade of Cyrano-IV.

We are talking about the 530D and the RDI radar which entered in front line service in 1987, it is perfectly valid for 1989.

IIRC Indian Air Force considers MiG-29 radar + R-27R superior to Mirage 2000 + Super-530D. In the late 80s Soviet Union had MiG-29 9.13 Fulcrum-C with L-203BE Gardenyia-1 ECM system by the way.

Su-27, F-15 or MiG-31 would be my choices.

    RsAF: 72 fighters in total (48 T2s, 24 T3s).

Many thanks for the summary. I was wondering if someone has data on the amount paid by Saudi Arabia. The only figure I found was 7.21 billion $ for 72 aircraft, which is far less than other users:

    – Qatar: 8 billion $ for 36 aircraft
    – Kuwait: 9 billion $ for 24 aircraft
    – Oman: 4 billion $ for 12 aircraft

These 3 contracts give an average of 330-340 million $ per aircraft. Austria paid ~1.5 billion euros for 15 aircraft, but these aircraft were Tranche 1 and some were second hand. The acquisition turned out to be a disaster so it should not be used as an example/reference.

RSK MiG could reduce it’s staff by 1,000. According to sources consulted by RNS the reason is the lack of contracts after Egyptian MiG-29s are delivered. Last summer 200 workers were made redundant. At the end of this year 500 employees from administration and the Mikoyan Engineering Centre in Moscow will follow. The other 500 will leave in 2018. RSK MiG employs 14,000 people, of whom 40% are below 35.

The company has stated that the reduction is due to the reshuffling of workers from Moscow to Niznhy Novgorod. Sokol Factory will organise production of Il-114 and final assembly of MiG-35.

The Tu-160s in Ukraine were based in Priluki, home of the 184 GvTBAP. First were received in 1987. When USSR collapsed there were 19. In 1999 it was agreed to transfer 8 Tu-160, 3 Tu-95 and 575 Kh-55 missiles in exchange of 275 million worth of gas debt. Another bird ended up in a museum (Poltava). The other 10 were scrapped with US assistance.
